Default Tips for cleaning motor oil off my kicker?

My kicker had a leak and motor oil got all over the shaft and some inside of the cover. Does anyone have a special soap or cleaner that will get the oil off? Lemon joy? Is there some mechanic clean that I can use that will cut the oil and still not create a smell that fish avoid. I don't think i'll catch any Springers with an oil trail behind me.

Also.. I'm guessing the oil reached the inside of the shaft. Should i scrub the inside too?

Any help is much appreciated

thanks

Dawn dish soap works well as a de-greaser..just mix a bucket of warm water and make the dawn/water mix pretty strong. Put the soap in after the water to control sudsing.
Good old motor cleaner like Gunk works well and if you really want to get-er done just drag your boat to the local coin operated truck wash. The degreasing agent at truck stops is pretty good stuff and the wand pressure will surely remove anything it hits....like paint, so be smart.

Cool Re: Tips for cleaning motor oil off my kicker?

Get a can of Wurth circuit board cleaner ...
It will not harm plastics or rubber but will dissolve the oil ...
Spray it down and mop it up and you'll be ready to go ...

Thanks everyone... Sounds like a I have an array of choices. Circuit cleaner; Gunk and Oven Cleaner. oh.. and dish soap.

Does anyone know if any of those have a scent/smell that will affect fish? I like the truck-wash using the pressure washer idea. I'll do that too.

Thanks again.

Brakleen... used for cleaning brake systems... breaks up oils and greases, but does not eat plastics and rubber components.

Don't stress over the scent trail you may be leaving behind...With all the exhaust fumes from other boats in the water system yours will just be another drop in the bucket.
Concentrate on the scent of your lures and sharpness of your hooks and you will be in great shape.

Super Clean all the way, much better than simple green!

But another thing I like to do when it comes time to clean semi-greasy stuff-
Pour some dish soap into the female end of a garden hose, then hook the garden hose up to my garage deep sink (or water heater) then blast the hot soapy water onto the greasy parts. Let them sit for a few minutes and rinse with more hot water.

If it's still greasy, spray some castol super clean on it while still hot and wet, then rinse after 5 minutes.

I have used Super Clean on my boats for years. It's the only thing I've found that takes the tire marks off the side of a boat. Thankfully, not many docks are using old tires anymore.

Bought some Super Clean last night and it really cut the oil. Thanks for the advice everyone.
