i have a 1967 buick 231 boat motor for my 19' trihull.ineed a carb for it.can i use a auto carb on it?it had a 2 barrel rodchester on it before, no longer have the carb.
what options do i have for carbs, can i use most 2 barrel carbs on it and can i use a auto carb and just plug the vacume and return fuel ports.

I've got a Edelbrock Performer auto model on my boat and the only drawback I've had to date is corrosion build up. I take it off every two years and clean the heck out of it and it seems to work fine.

Marine carbs are a little different. The vent dumps back into the carb rather than into the air . If you have a fire and have automotive parts then there might be issues to deal with. Use only marine starters, carbs and altenators

As mentioned above, the float bowl overflows stick straight up on a auto carb and they are bent in a u shape to vent into the carb throat on a marine version.

This is the only real difference, besides a little tuning/choke setup to match the marine setup.

Alternators/distributors/starters are sealed and/or spark arrested on the openings/vents.

You can use a 1/4" piece of copper tubing to bend a float bowl overflow to the carb throat, just remove the straight piece and ensure the new piece is firmly seated as to not come out (i've peened and epoxied them in before.)

Alt/dist/starters can use auto remanufactured units if you put the appropriate flash protectors from a marine version on them and seal the starter endcaps.
