Default New Record (Again)

According to Kokaneeforum.com a new record came out of Wallowa last week replacing the record from last summer. Also Bill Monroe has an article on His site, that the shrimp in Wallowa may destroy the fishery. We will be there for a week in May and will report. 6 ifishers making the trip this year and we have a private dock.

I don't buy it...Wallowa Lake for some reason has been able to hold up to the shrimp hatch unlike many other lakes.

The Mysis shrimp may eventually be the down fall of Wallowa lake, but it has not yet. In 2000, I think, the previous state record was set. The size of the kokanee declined in a pattern consistent with other lakes that followed the boom then bust in Kokanee population and size after the introduction of Mysis shrimp. It has rebounded and we can only hope that it will maintain its balance that has allowed Kokanee to feed on the shrimp and allowed fish fry to grow large enough to feed on the shrimp.

Here is the story of one lake that introduced shrimp, right in line with what FRG was saying.

i sure hope there is a way to keep the shrimp and keep the baby smolt fed
would be a shame to waste such a great food source for the fish... maybe they need to figure out the correct amount of adult fish to keep the shrimp in check by stocking other strains of kokes... and more of them till
the count of shrip is inline whit what they need .... lets hope it continues to grow bigger and bigger fish!!

If my memory serves me right, the shrimp were planted back in the 70's when i was still there attending high school...I would think that with that long a record they are fine!
