Default I need a guide put on a rod

Any Salem area rod builders that would put a rod tip guide on my pole for me? I will pay for it. I thought about just gluing it on but shouldnt it be wrapped as well? Would like a "professional" job on this pole not just glued on.

You can pay to have it wrapped after it's glued on, but it would be cheaper and just as functional to glue it yourself. Takes about 30 seconds.

Depends. One style requires wrapping, but 90% of the tip tops do not.

Put a paper clip through the ring attach a rubber band to the paper clip pull on rubber band. Heat tip top. When the glu melts the rubber band will pull it off.

Go to sportsmans warehouse or simular sporting goods store, buy replacement top (they come in lots of sizes measured in 64ths of an inch) and a stick of tip top cement.

Fill tube with shavings of tip top cement (not completely full). heat tip top to melt glue (don't get it too hot). Put tip top on rod. While still warm orient the tip top to line up.

Done.

Or come to the Salty Dog convention on Saturday - I'll show you how a few times

Tip top replacements aren't something that should be sent out and payed for. There really is no skill difference between an average joe and a rod builder. If you know how to use a lighter, and knife, and own tip top adhesive and said guide you have all you need. Tip tops are a few cents, adhesive is $3-5 and most people own a stick lighter or plumbing torch. The only skill you need is flame controll. Tip top adhesive lasts, and lasts, and lasts. For the most part all your paying for is the tip top. You could pay someone, or you could spend $5-6 dollars and do it in a minute or two.

Ifisherkid,
You are getting some good advice and some not so good. Do not use light colored hot melt. The darker color, amber, is best as it has a higher melting temperature. The lighter colored, cream colored, melts at too low a temperature and can loosen in the sun or in a hot car.
Also be careful with heat on the tip of the rod as the resin holding the fibers together can break down at a temperature lower than the temperature that you can create with a lighter or a torch.
I think that the best way is to put shavings of the amber colored hot melt glue into the tube of the tip top and heat the tip top until the glue is liquid and then put it on the tip of your rod and align it and wait a couple of minutes for it to cool. It is a very easy task, easier then this all sounds. Good luck.

And you can contact Anglers Workshop In Woodland, WA for the Tiptop guide and other rod building supplies. You can also stop in to the the Lamiglas plant Next door for the seminar for Rod Builders (of all expierence level) the second friday night and all day saturday of April where there will be a lot of guys/gals to answer your questions.
