Default It's time.... Ifish needs it own server.

My ISP that hosts ifish has alerted me to the fact that ifish has increased it's user load by 30% over just last month.
He said he can house multiple web sites on what ifish alone uses.
It's time for a whole server, just for ifish.net.
If I'm going to pay for that, by golly, that machine is going to have an ifish sticker on it!

Jen, I'll send $10 if you will take me with you. But there would be stings attached.
I have always wanted to fish the flatts off Key West Florida. Could we make that Orlando?

It's easiest for me to do a one month donation drive in April. Thanks alot, everyone. This will help tons.
I have to count donations as income, and it is just much easier for me to do it that way.
The address will be posted in April, and hopefully we will have a lot of neat prizes... Kind of like they do on PBS--
Thanks,
Jen

I have several options with different distributors and can build any size server we need. Currently I have a little extra time due to the fact that technology cut my position. :depressed: Let me know what needs to happen and some specifications.

Build your own server with all the good fast mother boards, hard drives and memory being so cheap it would be wrong not to take advantage of it. I know lots of big web sites that run on suprisingly small servers. Well cant name names but scary and stupid for them.

Jen a fundraiser would build you a state of the art server that other boards would be jealous of. It's great ifish has lots of tech geeks that could help build it.

 yeah, it is fun to have tech geeks around!
I am very loyal to my present ISP, Seasurf.
He is the one who originally got me into this web thing, and I will stay put with him.
Great guy, and a techno geek supreme.
We are in the talking stage right now.
I'm sure we'll come out with a great one.
Jen

Jen,

Obviously, you have the web design thing down; ifish works flawlessly. If by chance you are not as adept with hardware, maybe I can help. Generally speaking, I would suggest looking for a late model used machine with a good mother board that can handle upgraded processors, and building it up from there.... memory, drives, and processor if needed. This saves a bunch of money as slightly used equiptment is available at a fraction of the price, but with the same warrantee, and believe it or not, fewer failures.

DC

Hey! I know the insides of machines too now! I am now a certified expert!!!
Andrew finally got his dream computer, after receiving a medical award for his surgery that turned horrid.
It's a huge Alienware monster.
When it arrived, it didn't boot up.
I called tech support. They make you do it yourself!!! Andrew was at school. The tech guy instructed me, "Get a screwdriver and a flashlight..." I said, "Whaaa? Open the computer?
You mean the insides???"
Now... I have added memory to my machine. No prob.
But I had to mess with the mother board, and the sound card, and the video card and..!!!
After nearly disassembling the whole thing I finally made it work!!!
It was SO exciting!
Now.... What is a server?

And one more thing. Why does my 14 year old son have a better machine than I do?
I would be so happy to have help with trying to build a machine if I need to.
I am still waiting to really discuss this matter with my tech guy and ISP.
I have been researching dedicated servers, and what they mean. People have written to me explaining some of this techno geek stuff.
I'm learning!
Maybe we should have a meeting in Portland sometime, with all you in the know.
I'd love that!
Jen
