Welcome ...

As far as steelhead - I've caught two in the last 15 years, I'll leave the advice to the Reel Men here.

From Salem, I'd say learn about the Nestucca for winter fish and the Santiam for summer fish.

While your waiting for the Reel Men, don't overlook the "search" feature here - the archives contain the vast wisdom of many mighty fishers.

Welcome to Ifish Big Smizz. You should give the Siletz a try if you want table fare.
The upper nesstucca is basicly a catch and release show for natives this late in the season but the fishing has been good.

Welcome aboard Big Smizz, you will find this to be a somewhat friendly but nutty board. Some of the guys and gals too, are really into this, uh what can I call it? Uh, let's see now, well just into about everything from technique to knowledge and on top of they down right friendly. The posts above prove that. All are intersted in enjoying our great NW Outdoors as you can see from the invite from Chris Brown. Prepare to feast upon a fun loving, easy going and somewhat smart group of Orgonians and some drifters from the North once in a while.
Go with Chris in late Feb. on a broodstock trip in the Nestucca. That would knock your sox off.

Default Help!! I need steelhead! New member

Hello to all!. I am a new member to ifish. I live in Salem and have grown up trout fishing my whole life. I have just recently decided to pick up salmon and steelhead fishing and am trying to find my way. Last fall I fished Drift Creek (Siletz branch) and knocked them dead, including a nice 28 pound Chinook. Here I am ready to catch a steelie and don't know where to go or what to do. Pretty sad, huh? Anyone want to give me advice. I tried Drift Creek for Steelies a couple of weeks ago, but with no luck. Has anyone fished this river. Where should I go for a good shot at steelhead. Thanks for helping out a rookie!
