Default How to stop corrosion of anchor light plug

I was working on the boat this week getting it ready for the season. I plugged in the anchor light to make sure it worked and low and behold it didn't. Upon inspection one of the male pins had broken off in the socket due to (what I assume is) salt water corrosion.

$60 for a new Attwood mast and socket! I tried repairing the mast connector but I don't feel like it is going to last long so I just bought another.

Is there any way to keep them from corroding? I would spray them with WD-40 before and after each trip but it didn't seem to help much.

Any tips to extend the life of these? $60 a year isn't too bad but seems like there should be a solution out there.

Put a dab of Dielectric grease on both the male and female portions of the plug.

That should solve your problems.

NoAlOx, DeOx, Penetrox are common brands of electrical corrosion inhibiting compounds.
They are conductive so don't smear from one pole to another.

Yea, that is what I was concerned with. I have them in the tool box but didn't want to use them because of this. I think it would be pretty easy for it to make contact with the aluminum pole and short.

I aggree with big Daddy on this one.
From the permitex brand of the grease:

Dielectric Tune-Up Grease is a silicone dielectric compound used to insulate, lubricate and protect electrical fittings. It protects against salt, dirt, moisture intrusion and stray current in electrical connections.

Use it on all of your connections that are slip fit or butt connected and crimped

This stuff will not let you down:

http://ellsworth.com/display/product...34&Tab=vendors

I have used it for years on aircraft and boats, it's like vasoline that stays the same consistancy and keeps connections dry even underwater. Solder melts before this stuff does.
NON CUNDUCTIVE!!! Goop it on thick!
It doesn't dry out and it's just great stuff to have on your boat. Nothing compairs to it IMO.

Battery terminals, spark plug boots, rubber seals, electrical connections (fill the entire connector or butt connections before crimping), the list goes on.

That looks like the ticket Fishnchips.

I was going to order a tube but ellsworth has a $50 minimum. Off to do a web search to find out who else carries them.
