Very Large Wild Steelhead

A estimated 31# plus pound wild Steelhead was landed today 02/02/02 on Bob Tomans Boat while fishing the Clackamas river the fish measured 41.5 in and had a girth of 24.25 the fish was released unharmed

WOW!!! THATS BIG I seen a 25.5# come out of the clack about 15 years ago. 31# all a can say is THATS BIG!! Maybe the clack will become a trophy river.

By any chance was the 25.5# Steelhead you saw caught on the Clackamas "years ago" caught by Bob Matson? If so, I was in his sled that day and it was NOT a Steelhead, it was a RAINBOW TROUT and had never been to sea. This was verified by the head fish biologist with the Oregon Fish and Game Department (That was the name then). Yes, I was as surprised as you!! The official letter still exists.

Also, the specs don't seem to add up! My personal friend and fishing pal caught a 30# Steelhead on the Wilson in 1982, (officially measured) and it was 44" long.

rusty do you happen to remember what the girth was on your steelhead?

Wasn't my steelhead, it was a rainbow (believe it or not). A friend caught it while I was fishing with him many years ago. Offically weighed in Carver at 24 lbs. Did not measure girth.

It was weighed in at Larreys sporting goods. It might have been more or less then 15 years ago time gos by fast. It was on the back of a tail gate right next to one 8# or 9# or so.
