Learned a good new lead trick today!
It's always fun to learn a new tip.
Fished with Dudley Nelson and Bill on the Wilson today. Dudley is fascinating to listen to, as he tells his stories, and also stays up nights trying to invent new and easier ways to do things... Mostly fishing things!
Amongst other tips, I learned a neat way to cut lead, if you use hollow lead for fishing.
You know those dog toe nail clippers?
Use those! Makes a neat clean slice right through the lead! Never again have a tough time, because the hole is crushed! I always scored it, and broke it, but this is just so darn clean!
I know... another tool for your Holdzit Tool saver!
Just thought I'd pass this along.
Jen

Re: Learned a good new lead trick today!
Oh yeah.... Caught a nice big native today on a pink clown corkie and a tiny bit of shrimp that still was on from several casts... I mean tiny!
(Oh! And pink yarn...)
(Oh! And I was wearing pink lipstick!-- that always works well...)
It was about 10-11 pounds and chrome... Only fish in the boat... But what do you expect?
I mean, these guys have only been fishing for what, 40 years? 50?
Dang, I'm good.
Jen

I, too, was on the Wilson River, using corkie and shrimp, but I didn't catch an 11 pounder. But then, I had chapstick on, not the pink lipstick! I tell ya, fish are finicky

Re: Learned a good new lead trick today!
Hey, I just thought I'd pass this along.....this seemed like a good place to post it.
F.Y.I. For all those that are interested. I found out a new way to make weights for drift fishing the other day.
Take some shrink wrap and lead shot.....seal one end of the shrink wrap using an appropriate heat source....NO....your fireplace will not work......campfires are hazardous as well......Use your head....
Insert the appropriate amount of lead shot into the shrink wrap....whatever weights you prefer....and seal the other end flat. You can put a nice little hole in one end this way and it attaches well to a swivel snap.....This mimicks hollow core pencil lead extremely well and is very easy to do....and works very well.
Just thought I'd pass it along....
I'd rather be Lucky than Good!
Get the NET!!!!!
It is easier to catch fish if one's line is wet.

I to thought of the shrinkwrap idea. When I went to purchase some the price scared me off. Very expensive.

Team Flipper! How big was that dolphin anyway Mike? Thanks for the tip. I know where to get some shrink wrap.

I didn't know shrinkwrap was biodegradeable. Wouldn't want to be picking up pieces of it years from now.

captn-
It's not the price of the shrink-wrapping. It's the cost of the BB's. (or whatever # you use)
Surgical tubing works well, but is more time consuming. Mimics the properties of slinkie AND pencil lead.

reelman, don't mean to bash you but what about; nylon parachute cord, steel shot, pencil lead, surgical tubing, monofiliment, plastic corkies, ect. I don't think any of this is biodegradable.

Re: Learned a good new lead trick today!
At our local electronic store (not radio shack) I was able to get the shrink wrap for $1.09 for 4 feet. Four feet of shrink wrap will make a lot of shrinkies!!! Thinking of all the other things you buy for fishing, it seems like those costs are not out of line. And it comes in 100 ft rolls also and a whole rainbow of colors.
