Gators
What was going on at Lady Island, Mouth Sandy? There were more boats out there Friday afternoon than there has been in the last month. Are the Smelt up to the Sandy river and have the sturgeon followed?

Re: Gators
As of Thursday the Sturgeon were thick at Kelley Point. Limits for most all boats and many keepers released. We bagged a fat 50".

Re: Gators
Pilar,
Where do you launch from when you're heading to Kelly Point?

Ever tried Catapiller Island nest to Vancouver Lake on the washington side. It a lot closer than everyplace else. And my 4x4 gets better gas milage than my Sled.

Re: Gators
there are a slough of places to launch near there...The caterpiller Island is a one laner kinda rough but doable. there is another launch upstream of I-5 by the industrial area off highway 14.
I think theres one on hayden Island but theres freds marina close to the entrance of Mult. Channel, and theres more but I don't spend a lot of time on the Channel or in the Wil.

Re: Gators
Gator fishing today was as good as it gets. STZ II and myself picked up two nice gators. a 46" and a 49. Nice and fat, both of them. Used this years FROZEN SMELT. Worked like a charm. Second fish I landed was my keeper. STZ II had to work a little harder for his, but he eventually got it before noon. We sat around a fished for another hour and had two fish in the high 30's. Not a bad day fishing if you ask me.

Re: Gators
Don't you guys hate all these "newby" questions? No... cause without us it just wouldn't be as fun.
Anyway, I've never fished for "Gators" Been wanting go give it a try and have been hearing a lot about Kelly Point. Where is Kelly Point? From the sound of it, it's somewhere on the Columbia or Willammette or close to where they join??? How deep is it - and what areas do most people fish?
Can you buy fresh smelt or do you have to catch it? One more question, when does sturgeon start biting other baits (Whenever the smelt stop running? - when is that)? ok, that was two.
Thanks for any info.

Re: Gators
Ok, I think this is the "Kelly Point" everyone is talking about.(?)
Also, if you scroll down to the picture on This page, is this the type of rigging some/most/all of you use?
Thanx again,
SN
