Default We\'re Using The Wrong Bait

At the end of a couple recent fishing trips I was cleaning the days catch and while I was discarding the guts I noticed that two of the fish stomachs and somthing in them. When I opened up the stomachs, one had 4 rocks and a piece of wood in it and another fish had a white piece of plastic. Its not uncommon to find stuff in fish like eggs, shrimp etc. But rocks, wood and plastic are a first for me.

Since I am here and rarely have time to mess around with the computer during fishing season I will give a report on how Feb. treated me and my guests.

We landed a total of 127 fish with 52 of those being hatchery fish. The low fish total for the month was a 3 fish day and the high was 16 with about an 7 fish average. And icing on the cake was we didn't lose a single day to rain.

Here is a shot of a common scene at days end

The fish box working over time

These next two beauties are an example of what Broodstock programs can produce. This ones so built it almost looks like a Springer.

And the parting shot of a Native that never gets old.

March Steelhead is already booked up but April and May Spring Chinook seats are still available. And a new Willie Raptor to haul you to the fish. (pics soon)

I hear the salmon are hitting on marble and shale.

Great pics. and season. I used to check the guts often just to see...I have seen alot of weird stuff, for some reason rocks seem to be a fairly common thing, could'nt tell you why, maybee they get scooped up when sucking up eggs or something, those rocks look a little large though.Did you smell them maybee Maries scent on them

Out of 127 fish only 52 were brats? This is a hatchery river in it's 8th year of broodstock returns! How could there possibly be that many natives in the mix

So do you put those in your bait loop? Bobber N' Rock?...how do you get equal weight rocks so that you don't have to keep changing float sizes? Do you think a bunch of smaller rocks would work in some spawn netting? Thats it, I'm off to 'Joes to see if they have this Magic Bait!

Interesting pics, Thanks

Think, I finally figured out the "hot bait" thanks to you, just put up a pound of rocks with Amerman Egg Cure.

HamJam

The camera is a Minolta, it has DiMAGE G500 written on the side of it. It also says 5.0 mega pixels. I honestly wouldn't know a good one from a bad one but it seems to work pretty well.

Grant I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was a piece of your Riptide.

Scott I would have liked to post a bunch of 20 pounders but someone won't let any get by him. I have enjoyed your pics as well.

Sounds like you have had a great season Travis. Keep up the good work .

I have never seen rocks, wood or plastic in a fishes stomach before. I have found crawfish, candlefish, herring ( plugcut and whole ). I have found hooks and fishing line before also. But those rocks you found are a first for me.

Was all of that out of one fish?

Travis

Great post and pics Maybe the fish started eating the rocks and stuff once hooked to make it harder for you to land them.
