Default kick motor small boat

I had a couple question in regards to my 15ft Gregor boat. I have a 18hp engine on it as my main and just bought a 8hp Johnson two stroke for a kicker. In reading some of the post for smaller boats and kicker engines, I'm starting to think the 8hp will troll to fast for my smaller boat. I haven't yet tried it and haven't fished awhole lot to know what's to fast. Thoughts? Should I sell the one I just bought and go with a 4hp or 5hp? Also on these smaller boats can you get the kicker to attached next to the main with out an addition of a kicker plate? See picture below of what my boat looks like, not an exact match but very similar.

That may be alot of weight on the back of a little boat, transom freeboard = your friend.
Couldn't you troll with the 18hp? maybe try a drift sock to slow you down if needed.

I have a 13 foot Gregor with a 8 hp Johnson 2 stroke. It trolls down real well. In the fall at lowest throttle I am going slower than the pack. It seems like the real problem is stern weight. I am a big guy and need a sand bag in front when fishing alone. I would not want to add to the weight of my 58 lb. motor.

An 8hp will be fine. I've used an 8hp Evinrude for a trolling motor on a 14' Lund for years. Before that was a 10hp Honda that worked well also.

Well if its to fast through out some sea anchors thats how I troll for trout out of my granpas 15 klamath with a 8 hp mer on it seems to work good. Or you might just try that with the 18hp and she what happens,
