Default A Newcomer Introduction

Hello everyone!

I'm glad to be a part of this fine group of anglers. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the interesting and informative posts here the last few months and I have finally decided to jump in.

I have moved up here (Beaverton, OR) from the Bay Area (CA) several months ago, and I'm really excited about all the fishing opportunities available here. I have driven over seven hours (oneway) to fish for steelhead before, and now it only takes me half hour. I'm still trying to catch my first OR steelhead with all the tips I've gathered here and few other places online, but no luck yet. There are few other species I'm interested in angling for also--salmom(of course), smallmouth, walleye, shad, sturgeon, and striper. So, I guess that sort of makes me a fish-a-holic???

I'm really impressed with the members' fishing knowledge and their willingness to share them, so I feel like I'll be listening more often than speaking. I probably will ask a lot of questions, so be warned!!

Best Regards!!

Hey, Omni! Welcome!
Someone usually says it to new members, so I will, this time: Tell us a fish story!

Welcome! (Don't tell everyone you're a Californian. They'll blame YOU if the fish aren't biting.

Did you say California? Welcome Omnivore. Look up Threemuch another recent transplant. He was talking to me today about the real problem with Oregon fishing.

It's year round. As one species/location slows down something else flares up somewhere else. It leads to no time for anything else. When is it good to take a few weeks off? Never you might miss something really cool.........

So many fish, so little time.

Thanks everyone for a warm welcome!

A fish story? Hmm...
Here's one. Years ago, I wanted to take my nephew fishing, but I also wanted to make sure that he didn't get bored. So, catfishing seemed like a good idea and we headed to Sacramento Delta. This area was known to have a lot of catfish, but I've never fished it prior to that time. We found a quiet cove and started fishing with clams. The action started as soon as the baits hit the water, and I couldn't keep up with the pace of rigging up both poles. My nephew was grinning from ear to ear as I was busy opening up the clams and putting the meat on the hooks. He was alternately using his and my rod and reeling in the little catfish, one after another. Busy with his unexpected success and somewhat unaware of my task, he sheepishly commented, "Uncle Jim, I'm catching more fish than you are!" I just bursted into a laughter(mostly inside). The pleasure was mostly mine. The fishing has never been the same, however! :depressed:

Hello, happybrew! I needed to be honest(about my origin), but wait 'til I start telling my fish stories...

Hi Pilar! Yeah, I agree 100% with what you're sayin'. How does an angler in OR ever get anything done? Do any of you have a job???
