Default Bass-Zilla

Hi Bait O' Eggs! Maybe we can stop all the abuse you are taking by changing the subject.

Let's talk about jetty fishing for Sea bass and having a get together like the one you hosted last year. I think the main factor in the low catch rate was the timing. Earlier would be better since the Bass spawn early spring and come close inshore.

Maybe 4th weekend in March? We can talk about camping at Bar View campground, Sea Bass tech, jetty safety and what else? Oh yeah, maybe even a little crabbing in the bay.

Another excuse for Ifishers to gather and have fun!

Back to you BOE .>>>

John
I like the idea a lot, I meant to talk to you further yesterday but got to busy at work.

The tides look good for the weekend of March 23. Being almost 2 months earlier than last years trip will improve the catching.

Is there any interest out there for another night jetty fishing trip for the weekend of the 23rd? Sort of like the last one, a BBQ dinner in the late afternoon at Barview and then move over to the rocks when the sun goes down and start to reel in some bass. Maybe I can pick up another bushel of oysters and we can watch them pop open on the grill.

The timing will put us after the Sturgeon Derby and before Floatilla 4.

For those that dont know where Barview is, it is basically the North Jetty at Tillamook bay, just about a mile north of Garibaldi.

No boat required

California Salmon? Oh yeah those are the fish I catch on the Rockpile every summer. Dude, why not get them here while they are fat and sassy?

JK, you have to give up that south of the border action soon or you'll never grow the webbed feet. Once we get you out in to the Saltchuck you'll forget all about the southern regions.

Night fishing for sea bass hugh, count me in  I have not done that in a couple of years. I have some killer grubs and twisty tails that I hand poured for when I do a little bottom fishing. Sounds like a perfect excuse to get them wet!

Sounds like fun! I'll have to check closer to the date but put me down as a mabey. I assume steelhead sized spinning gear? 10 to 12 lb line? Shrimp and plastic grubs? A lot of lost gear in the rocks? I'll try anything once. Well almost anything.

Pilar-
The california salmon opener at Moss landing is an epic event. It's not so much about the fish as it is the fun. 60+ boats, 150 people for four days of camping, fishing, food, and drink.

The boat I crew for down there has a hot reputation, having scored quick limits four years running and top fish 2 out of those four years. Last year they filled the back deck of the Reel Addiction with bannanas on the night before the opener and we still slew em, 6 in the box by 7:30 with big fish at 18 pounds. Can't quit on a streak. Especially for $100 in airfare.

Roy-I dont care what everyone says about you repeatedly. Your wit and good intentions make you the really cool guy you are! Are your folks and family gonna fish again this time? They are great and it was good to meet them and see you fish together. It was also a great time to meet and fish with everyone else from ifish. Share food and all that.
Can your generator handle more lights? I dont have a generator but have lights.
Let me know what help you need. We really liked the one last year. Even though I pulled lame and left early. Sore ankle and rocks ,then add too much beer too little sleep and it was time to go.
But I am gonna be ready this time to go all night.

Who caught all the fish last time Waterdog's wife, right?
Yahoo -I am ready to rock and fish.
Pilar- Good idea about hitting early! BTW March 23 is that spring break?
Just thinking warm clothes, very warm clothes, as the wind was killer cold last year.

Bill - Nice to see you are gonna make it again. And you are right, I am special

Nice to see we have some interest in this event again.

Dot - I usually use 1/4 ounce jig heads and 3 inch curly tail rubber jigs. Last year the water got to running fast and it was hard to get down and I wished I had some 1/2 ounce jigs with me, but the fishing was so poor it didnt really matter. I like the chartreuse color twisty tails jigs with the black flecks in it, but other colors work well also.

I use a 6 1/2 foot trout pole and spinning reel with 6 pound line, but a light steelhead rod works fine also. Some of the bites can be light and a good quality rod helps with that.

A 5 gallon bucket is great to put the fish in, a lantern or 2 is nice to be able to see. That is about all it takes.

The rocks can be slippery and your felt soles or other shoes with good traction can help with getting around.

When you say 'sea bass', are you talking about rockfish? Also, is catching lingcod a possibility there at the jetty? If so, that would be a huge bonus, and I would definitely be interested.

fishing the jetty is real easy. believe it or not, but my husband's uncle doesn't have a leg and he takes us down there every year and fishes it. There is a place that the rocks literally have a STEP up and over the top.

It's not too close to the front of the jetty, but we have pulled some really big fish out of that hole. Sea Bass, Ling Cod, Cabbizon and eels. The Ling's come in and spawn in the rocks near the shore. During the day we use sand shrimp with pencil lead, maybe a teardrop. 3/4 oz to 1 oz.

We used to fill the gunny bag full back when it didn't matter.

Roy- I have charcoal for the BBQ. I am cleaning out the garage & finding oh about 60+ lbs I havent used since I went to propane. I remember your custom BBQ being good for oysters and stuff. So keep in mind I am bringing charcoal.

RW- you are more likely to land on another rock than swim if you slip. No one went swimming last year it was too windy. We should draw straws to see who gets to be lifegaurd they get to wear the red bikini.

BR Shooter - asked in chat about the jetty fishing trip, said he missed this thread.

Bringing it back to the top so we can get a few more people who missed the thread show up for the fun.

March 23rd - Barview north jetty. A bring your own BBQ, and we will meet near the coast guard tower around 4 pm. When the sun sets around 6:30 we will move to the rocks and slay some fish. For those interested several people will be crabbing during the day prior to jetty fishing.

If you got any questions post away?
