Excited to try my new Rio Indicator line !
It's been way overdue! I have been using this old DT for so long. Thing is, it was a cheap line when I bought it and that was many years ago. It's years old in technology and the the coating was poor when it was new. Especially compared to these new lines.
So today I went down to see Jack at NW Flyfishing Outfitters and got set up with this new line made just for nymphing with an indicator for steelhead. If it's anything like Rio's other newer lines, I'll be ecstatic.
Anyone used this yet? Reviews? I'll post a reply myself after my first day on the water with it.

I think Im gonna get one too. Wish they made it in larger sizes for my switch rod since I usually fish a 10wt on it and they only make the indicator up to a 8wt. 79ft head on it so it should mend at more distance than any other other line. Love Rio Lines.

Please keep us posted on this. I'm going to have to replace my Wulff triangle taper, and now that I Spey I find that all I use my single-hander for is nymphing.

I have been thinking about this one too, also the aireflow speydicator line for my switch. Anyone cast that line yet?
I really like my Rio Steelhead taper, but it is in dire need of an upgrade.

Re: Excited to try my new Rio Indicator line !
Congrats on the new line,
did you over line it by chance? In my experience this helps with roll casting and such. Usually overline 1-2 lines sizes. I too have a Rio Steelhead line, overlined one rod size on a vt2 8# it fishes well but could even gone another line size up. I really like the longer belly on these lines, good for mending, pretty much a DT with the front end cut back.

Re: Excited to try my new Rio Indicator line !
I didn't overline it. I have before on some really fast action trout rods that I use for short casts and therefor don't get to use the whole weight of the line as intended. I also overlined weight-forward lines on client rods for beginning casters to slow things down for them. It enables them to feel the rod load and makes the day much more enjoyable for us both.
This rod I use on larger rivers that I use the whole head and will shoot line as well. I think it will be perfect the way it is, as it's designed to throw rigs. Maybe I'll be surprised when I try it in a few hours??

Re: Excited to try my new Rio Indicator line !
Fished this line on a new Sage 99 and was not as pleased with it as the SA steelhead taper that I have on all of my nymph rods. I didn't expect this new line to be better than the steelhead taper simply because I think that is a very hard line to beat. It wasn't bad but I would still lean towards the SA for any nymphing applications.
