Shears Bridge Permits?????????
I spent most of the day trying to find out more on this.
Went to Bi-Mart and to some releaf, was told to go to G.I.Joes, off I go, stoped in at the ticket booth, and started asking questions, and finaly they took out all of there PERMITS and showed me what they have. Again 50 questions about the new regs's down there.
I see day passes for floters, boaters, but nothing on fishing!!!!.
Off to the sporting goods dept and talk to the manager, to see what he has heard, and as I am talking to him a black man came in to have braded line put on a reel, and he heres some of the question I am asking.
Well I asked him what he has heard from his scorce'es, (FIND OUT HE IS A COP DOWN THERE)
He says that the west side of the river has not been decited as of yet, but on the east side of the river the white man ownes.
Now I know some Ifish people come over for this fishery as I have to many friends who come over from the Portland area all the way to Cheery Grove.
I know that if I get up at 3:00am and drive to a fishen hole (100 miles) @ $2.00 per gallon and cant fish becouse they cant make up there mind on this fishen hole than some thing should be done NOW BEFOR THE SEASON STARTS.
This Sucks for all of US.
Old and getting Cranky-------RIVER-RAT.

Re: Shears Bridge Permits?????????
Are you looking for a boaters permit? I don't think I'd be boating the Shearers falls at all. But if it's just a Deschutes boaters pass you're after, if they are not yet issuing them for 2004, they will usually honor the 2003 passes until they decide what to do. The boating passess are issued by BLM - I'd contact the BLM office in Prineville and ask them what's up.

Re: Shears Bridge Permits?????????
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A BOAT GO OVER THE FALL AND HOPE THERE IS SAFTY PEOPLE THERE TO FISH OUT THE PEOPLE.
The talk of the town is that becouse of tribal land the tribes want to charge a fee to fish OFF THE BANKS DOWN THERE---NOT OUT OF A BOAT, YOU COULD GET A BOAT IN THERE BUT YOU WELL LOUSE YOUR LIFE AND THE BOAT.
Ok with that said.
Last year the Warm Spring Tribe went and inproved the parking at the bridge, yes real nice, No power, and No water, and out houses.
They in return wanted to charge $10.00 per night to stay there.
The railroad/and ODOT own the land--Tracks and Roadway.
Now they want US to pay for daily parking, over night stay, and a PERMIT to fish off the ROCKS.
This is to cover there inprovement cost that they should of not done.
I fish off the banks along with 1000 others, I gess some of us on Ifish have not been down there as it is a drive from Portland, but a nice one at that.
Not looking at a Day pass, No Boating Pass, No Hikeing Pass,
Just for someone to step forward with the skinny on this, BEFOR YOU DRIVE 150 TO 200 ONE WAY TO FISH THIS FISHERY, NO ONE NEEDS A TICKET.
Now back to the begening, Anyone have a cup of JO??? I need a drink.

Re: Shears Bridge Permits?????????
Tribal Law Enforcement WILL also check, everyday, to make sure everyone has the correct stuff.
While OSP is there quite a bit, you can always count on the Tribes being there. Look for dark green Dodge, he'll often sit up by where the indians park on their way to their platforms, and watch anglers/cars with binoculars.
Not to start a topic on the Tribes, but the law enforcement regarding the river is really scarry  Do a search on the internet and you can probably find some of the newspaper articles dealing with some of the crazy stuff that has been going on down there. People getting all their gear siezed for being on the islands, etc. I ALWAYS make sure to have every piece of tag, licence, parking permit, etc before fishing near Tribal waters. It just isn't worth it in the long run if something should happen.
I have lived in Madras for 16 years and know many people who have gotten quite the run around. Also know several Tribal Law Enforcement officers and have heard their stories also...

Re: Shears Bridge Permits?????????
I sent ODFW an e-mail and will call ODFW and the Tribe tomorrow. I know there have been some issues with using the raft landing area on the west bank above the falls in the past. I don't know who has permit rights there, but I'll ask and report back.
