Boice boats
Just got back from the local boat show here in AK. I met a rep from Marathon Marine they make the hulls for Boice. Things did not sound too good for them, legal matters and such. I see that on their website all of the Marathon Marine stuff is gone! If you checkout Marathons web site they have the same models of boats that Boice had. Has Boice been at the local shows down there?

Re: Boice boats
Yes, they are at this weeks show here in Portland. I was looking at them yesterday (not to buy, just their video of how cool their boat is)

Re: Boice boats
The last time I spoke with Justin, I was under the impression that they cut their ties with Marathon. Too many late deliveries and/or miss builds I suppose. It also may be more economical to build your own hull, then to pay someone else, and then ship it down.
They still have the best boats around-bar none! Test drive one, and you will never go back. Radius bottom and wave cutter bow makes all the difference.

Re: Boice boats
It is my understanding that Marathon is no longer associated with BoiceJet.
Flat out, best performing boat on the water. Basic fishing boat, or decked out "Cadillac" boat, whatever you want.
Price is right as well!

Re: Boice boats
Saw those Boice boats at the show and I don't think anybody can beat them for topside finish quality. They had a video tape running of jet boat abuse. Did anyone else watch it? They were deliberately running the boat right over the gravel bar, bouncing it off rocks and jumping log jams with it. Didn't show any pictures of the bottom after they were done though.
The only thing I don't like about them is the extreme flare on the sides from the gunnel to the chine. Just not used to the look I guess.

Re: Boice boats
I've wanted a North River for years. Always felt it was the sweetest boat around, and once they ramped up production and brought the price way down, I was ready!!
I still think they are one of the top dogs...and with a full-service shop here in the PDX area, it would likely still be a toss-up between them and Boice. It was tough to get used to both the flare design and the windshield design of the Boice boat. After a long talk with Justin, there's no doubt he knows what he's talking about....and after a ride, I was hooked!!
Just gotta figure out where my wife's going to get a second job so I can buy a new boat!!

WENT TO THE COLUMBIA AND WE BOATED THIRTY STURGEON AND TWO WERE KEEPERS.EVERYPLACE I HAVE TAKEN MY BOICE IT HAS PERFORMED EXCELLANT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO GOLD BEACH AT THE MOUTH, CAUGHT FISH THERE ALSO! THE DIFFERENT ALTITUDES HAVE NEVER AFFECTED IT. IT'S PERFORMANCE HAS STILL BEEN EXCELLANT.

Re: Boice boats
You're both right actually. Marathon delivered them too many mis-builds, late deliveries, and mistakes to make their arrangement cost effective, so the relationship was ended. This info came from Justin himself.
Also, there have been some legal matters and a much bigger new facility that put severe money problems on the company. Whether it will cause a great product and company to dissapear I don't know. I hope not, because he's a good guy, and builds a good product...not to mention he employs alot of people here.

Re: Boice boats
Took my first ride on Degners new Boice jet last weekend and was very impressed with the ride and over all quality of the boat. You get alot of boat for the money and I dont think you could come close to what he has in a NR for the price that he paid.
