World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
Can you believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am ready to scream some people are so dumb and so full of............... . Guy at work tonight got to talking about Alabama and the great fishing there. He then dropped the bomb, HE HAS PERSONALLY SEEN.........ARE YOU READY FOR THIS................CHOKE GASP........ 35 POUND CRAPPIE. I could not take it any longer from this guy and used the bull manure reply. I told him the world record is somewhere in the 5-6 lb range and that there was no such thing as a 35 pound crappie. He went off on me saying he was excop and wasn't lying, I wasn't from down there so I didn't know #@#@&*#@, you get the idea. Wwwwwhhhhheeeewwwwww, this guy just makes me want to scream.........aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh h. Okay, now I am better. Just looked up records, yep, 5lbs 3 oz still listed as world record out of MS, not Alabama. Think I will push his button tonight and ask him how big the bass get down there, man I would be afraid to go swimming. Thanks for letting me blow off steam, work place is going to be death of this old guy yet.

I'm tanning the skin on a 87 ft diamond back rattler from Alabama as we speak. It's true..... I'm gonna re-cover my sofa in my doublewide with it.
If there is any left over, I'm gonna use it for a car cover on one of the broken down cars in the front yard.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
while in college, we had a "friend" who would tag along with us on all of our fishing and hunting outings. one day we were in his ford taurus heading out to shoot jackrabbits. the road was a little icy and snowy, so we told him to slow it down a little bit. he said "don't worry, this car is really heavy and I get good traction. When i drove home last week I went over one of those trucker scales for fun. My car weighs 22,500 pounds" We said, you mean 2,250 pounds. No, 22,500 pounds!! He wouldnt believe us and we finally just had to stop talking about it because he wouldnt listen. I didn't realize ford came out with a 11.5 ton taurus!! lol

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
Thanks for the laugh this morning. Same guy at work claims he "WALKED" a PT test at work (1.5 miles) in 10:45. Thats 10 minutes 45 seconds!!!! If you do the math, comes out around 12.55 MPH, must have looked like a roadrunner cartoon.
Luckily I am not working with the guy tonight.
Just checked Alabama records on internet, nope, no mention of 35 lb crappies. Closest I could find was striped bass 55 lbs, guess they kinda look like a crappie, you know shinny, aahhh I found it, common carp 35 lbs caught in 1980. Pardon me, this is just too much, gotta chill.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
I worked with a guy just like that. He always had a "one-upper" story. I would just let him talk. Then at a company weekly meeting we were all talking about what we did that weekend. I had rode some quads with some buddies up into the hills between Wenatchee and Ellensburg, we saw some huge elk, one was a monster 7x7. Anyone who has been up there has seen these monsters around. He proceeded to tell everyone that that he had seen a 12 point bull elk. I asked "a 6x6, wow." He said no, it was a 12x12, typical. The "typical" put me over the edge, I called him out and he said, "No, it looked just like the ones they shoot in Argentina." I just laughed and said "I rest my case." He still didn't get it. Moron

Good story. Now can we have a moratorium on threads with headlines about giant non-fish.

A guy once told me sturgeon are thousands of years old. Not that they haven't changed in thousands of years. They are thousands of years old. How do you argue with that?

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
I knew this one guy when I was a kid who claimed that his son caught a largemouth that so long its tail stuck out of a 55 gallon drum. The fish was caught someplace in georgia. He even went as far as showing me the power worm his son caught it on. I was about 9 years old and thought that this was ridicoulous.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
had a guy tell me and my buddy that he's seen and caught 40lb largemouth out of california... I said George Perry caught the world record in georgia in 1932 and it weighed 22lb 4oz...... he said he's caught way bigger.
Ran into a guy fishin that said he caught a ten pound bass the day before... I said "how long was it?" He held out his hands and said "at least this long!"....... he was showing me about 15"
Met a guy that said he had shot 50 Pope and Young whitetail... of course he didn't believe in entering any of them... also said he passed up what would have been the world record typical whitetail because it had a few broken tines. He couldn't bring himself to harvest a deer that wasn't at it's full potential, so he shot the ten pointer standing with it.

I grew up in georgia been livin out here for 18yrs now. We used to catch 1-2lb blue gill on a regular basis we called them red breast or STUMP NOCKERS cause of there big red belly and the huge hump right over the top of there eyes, usualy when they were spawning you could actualy smell there beds and follow your nose, hit a good spot and you could just catchem till you just plain wore your arm out. They do get big and we would occasionaly get our line snapped by the occasionaly monster but I have never seen a bluegill over 3lbs. They are increadibly good eating fish, I do miss that type of fishing.

We will not brag about Gerber but if you knew you guys get a chance try it out and sure that you look into fish cleaning station's you might be in for a big surprise when you see some of the heads of those crappies.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
That sounds like a fun lake. Maybe further south in OR they enjoy a longer growing/feeding season? There are some massive crappie in California way bigger then anything I used to see back in east where they are native.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
When I was an 18 year old kid (N. Wisconsin) a guy came into the bar (hey, it's Wisonsin) bragging about his big bass that he just caught. I asked where he caught it and he told me the name of the lake was McKee. I hadn't heard of that lake so I asked where it was. He said it was just north of the little town down the road. I said that he must mean Lake Magee which he agreed must be the lake. But there wasn't any bass in that lake so I asked to see the fish which he had in his car. He opens the trunk and there lays this crappie that is over 2 feet long! It was stained brown from the tannis colored water of the swampy lake and that plus the size made him think it was a bass. I had heard that there were crappies planted in that lake years ago but nobody had caught any for a long time. Then the dam had washed out and all that remained was a swampy channel meandering through floating bog. I have no idea if he ever had it weighed but he had to have a state record. It was an outrageous fish.

I think I saw a perch that big at Hagg last summer. You could see his dorsal fin coming out of the water every so often, chasing the jet skiiers...

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
I had a plumber in my house yesterday for about 7 hours. During that time, I was on ifish looking at a guy's three pics of Kenai chinooks. The plumber saw them when walking through the room and blurted out that he had caught a 40 pound cutthroat out of Moses Lake. Before I could respond, which I hated to have to do, he told me that no one up there had ever seen a fish that big.
That allowed me to say "Yes, I'm sure," in response.
Later, while hiding from him in the back of the house, he walked into the living room where my wife was watching a documentary on NetFlix about wolverines (which is awesome, btw). He blurted out that he had seen two of them out around his place.
He lives in Eltopia, WA, an industrial-agriculture wasteland with more circle crops than trees.
My wife said that they must have been badgers. He said no, they weren't, and he still knew where he could find a few, even though people told him they were "extinct" in that area.
The other day, a guy here claimed he had caught a 17.5 foot sturgeon and catches 13-15 footers all the time.
I used to get frustrated by the over-exaggerators and outright liars. Now I just figure it's part of being an angler. Some hunters, and , yes, I hunt (a lot), are just as bad.

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
I guess it's a good thing the wife wasn't watching Harry And the Henderson's - he probably would've said he not only had one big foot living with his family, but had the bigfoot's wife & two children living there also.
And he probably has a mount of a 30lb Brook Trout on his living room wall, above the fire place, next to the two opposing Polar Bear mounts, and Rudolf's head, complete with illuminated nose!

Re: World record crappie in alabama!!!!!
Yes hunters can be just as bad. Few years back was visiting someones home that was "supposed" to be a very knowledgable sportsman. He claimed to have an 18" pronghorn mounted an hung in his living room. This I had to see, all I could say was nice. Buck didn't look like it would make 12" let alone 18. Have kept my distance ever since.
