One piece rods
I prefer one piece rods. Aside from a being able to fit a two piece in the trunk of a car more easily, what other benefits of break-down rods am I missing?

Re: One piece rods
One benefit of a one piece is no weak spot at the ferrule. Most two-piece rods i've seen broken have snapped at this point.

Re: One piece rods
and just how may rods have your broke with a fish on? I've never seen a rod break because of a fish but because of stupidity. Two piece rods break down so you can transport them safely. The trunk of a car is not exacly a safe for rod tips to be flying around, but they are safer than they would be inside the car or truck with other people and animals moving around. Kids would kill your one piece rod in a door for sure. The two piece rods can be secured by putting a rubber band around each end to keep them togather and not flopping around loose for things to be dropped on them.. Ain't never had a two piece rod broken in transit. I say it's a lot safer to use the rubbers to secure them. Protection against accidents is worth the cost.

Re: One piece rods
I've never broke a rod due a fish but have seen several. I have broken two by reefin' on snags. These broke at the ferrule.

Re: One piece rods
I've also never seen a quality rod break with a fish on. I've also seen alot of one piece rods damaged in transport. Mostly tailgates. They are two different animals. One piece rods have more feel and that is good for pulling plugs. They are usually shorter, so they fit in the back of my truck. However, to hike through the woods to your favorite hole with a one piece rod thinking that it won't get damaged as easy is silly. If you were to take a poll on broken tips from one piece rods VS. broken ferrules on two piece rods, the results would be obvious.

Re: One piece rods
Hey Catch 22, please explain your statement " one piece rods have better feel so are better for plugging" I under stand that they have better feel for drift fishing but fail to see where that help's in plugging.

Re: One piece rods
I like to know that my plug stopped working because it's hung up before it's behind the boat. The vibration is trasmitted down the rod better. Better for almost all boat applications. Better for any kind of fishing other than bank fishing. Transporting the rods is the only reason to have a 2 piece rod whether on the trail or in the vehicle.

Re: One piece rods
For the record, the only tip I've broken was on a two piece rod. The rod was assembled and I was bushwacking. Most of my fishing is from a boat these days. The rods go in the boat before I leave home. For my uses, I seldom break down my multi-piece rods. The big exceptions are a couple high end fly rods which go back in their socks and into their aluminum tubes when I'm done fishing. I never thought I'd spend so much for a rod, but I did it more than once!

Re: One piece rods
I broke my 1 piece Lamiglass Saturday on a 42" sturgeon, broke on the hookset. I hope I can get it replaced. Any advise on how to go about it.
