Default Yamaha kicker adjustment problem.

The screw that adjusts the back and forth resistance is being difficult. It's either too tight or too loose. Replaced the wingnut bolt, which broke, with an allen wrench bolt ...same problem. There is a spring that keeps tension on the bolt so it stays where you set it, but it's not helping. When I tighten down the bolt the unit is tight at both ends of the swing and loose in the middle.
Has anyone out there had this problem and if so what did they do to resolve it. Makes it difficult to take your hand of the tiller for a second without doing 360s. :depressed:
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
It's a '95 8hp LS. I Bought it new and its been a good solid unit other than this problem.

Thanks, David

There are different grades of locktite, some stay soft. Just read the lables. You can try one of the ones that still let you turn the screw, but won't let it back out. I think it says "regular hand tools" Alot of new cars and other products use this on set screws. Your outboard propably had it on that screw-it wears off. Hope this helps.
