Default Here's a steelhead option for this week that will not be blown out!

Here's an option for the weekend, try trolling in one of the coastal lakes that are planted with re-run steelhead, check with the ODFW to find out the ones that have been planted. Sunset, Coffinberry, Town, Spring...I'm sure there's more.

Bobber and bait or trolled plugs like Hot Shots, K10 Kwikfish, Wee Warts and Wiggle Warts will work for these fish. I might be wrong but I don't think you have to tag those fish in the lakes either.

I think some of these fish might be dark but the bucks should cut good.

If I was going to fish in these lakes for the steelhead I'd try fishing a float with eggs or sand shrimp (the shrimp are probably not avialable right now because of all the fresh water flooding the bays)or even a jig with a peice of raw prawn tail. Try different depths from just off the bottom to two or three feet under the surface. Casting plugs or spinners might work. If from a boat try trolling small plugs in flo. orenge, matalic pink or red, blue or green pirate and maybe even micheal jackson. A slowly stripped fly might even do the trick.

They are surplus from the hatchery and the state puts these fish in there for the taking but you don't here much about fishing for them. I know that many are dark but at least it's fishing for those of you who need to get a line wet.

Dave, just because the rivers are blown out it doesn't mean that you can't still give those rowing lessons.

That's right, and there's also those casting lessons and the white water experience.

The steelhead put into lakes are counted as trout, so you don't need to tag them, but you can only keep one over 20 inches.
