Break it down for the newbies here... Corkie and scent? What about yarn? (Trying to learn different methods of rigging up).

Thanks!

Thanks for the report fishon.

Cool Texan, some may disagree with me but I believe the thing to get here is river conditions.

Personally I find steelhead to be fairly easy to catch if the river is in the right condition. Of course you have to use the right method and have a feel for what you are doing. They will hit most things if they are properly presented. Pink Corkie and white yarn for instance.

The real challenge for the newbie is to be at the river in the right spot on the right day. You need fish on the move and a good spot to drift for them.

My favorite situation is dropping and clearing. I fish a spot when the river just begins to go from grey to grey green.

What Fishon used matters less than when he went and where.

Tex,
I mormally use yarn with my corky, just because the scent will soak into the yarn. Also a pink or orange corky with a little bit of white yarn looks like eggs with a bit of membrane hanging loose. (can't tell ya what the fish thinks it looks like) but it works for me.
There again, got a buddy that uses only a single peach pearl corky, and does very well.
If you use yarn, don't have it too long. Never have the yarn go past the end of the hook. I like the yarn about half of the hook length.

Diddo UB,

Cool Tex, Make sure you look at river levels before making the trip.I personnaly don't make the drift down the Wilson if it is over 6.5/6.8. 5.5 to 6.00 is usually a good level ( water flows are usually a good indicator of water clarity, but not always). If you are fishing from the bank upstream
between the 16mi. and 21mi.markers the water is generally a little clearer than below the guide shop.

Cool Texan yarn gets stuck in there teeth and gives a few seconds to set the hook.

Cool-Texan, howdy partner. I use pretty much the same setup as the rest of the people who answered your post. I add one little object to my rig. I always string a small red bead above the hook. The bead is close to the same color as a single mature egg. Seems to help but who know's. I fully agree with Pilar, the water is the most important.
