Thumbs up LBC Report 2/6 (pics)

We hit LBC again on Saturday 2/6 for a little more winter koke action. Got an earlier start this time and we were on the water by 7:30 AM. Weather was 36 degrees and drizzled/rained most of the time. Again we trolled many different combos, but the sling blade and orange apex put all 10 fish in the box.

On the water ready to go:

Once again finding solid schools at 120':

On the hunt:

Old faithful:

Good grade of fish for early season:

Another beautiful day:

Nice report! Just curious; my fish finder does not have a color monitor - on your display, what is the difference between the fish that show orange and the other colors?

The orange or red indicates density. That density can either be large fish or tighly packed schools of fish. In the spring we will run across schools that take up 1/4 the screen, just one huge orange ball. Thats a good place to stop and jig .

Super report! I like the visuals on fish depth and what worked! Speed and leader length? Best response pulling your gear through or just above the schools? Thanks for reporting!

Thank you.

Boat speed was between .9 and 1.2. Leader length from sling blade to apex was 30". Set back from down rigger ball to sling blade was about 6-8'.

Tried trolling anywhere from 110' to 130' and the hot depth was 120', right through the middle of them.

The one anomaly is that the action on the apex is not great at that slow speed. We have tried hoochies, bugs, wedding rings and the only rig to produce fish was the apex. The apex is tipped with corn however, maybe that is what's is provoking the strike...

Thanks for the post. I won't be able to get back out on LBC until March. Any bull trout hit your koke gear? I was out in January and picked up a couple bulls that hit a green hootchie I was trolling for kokes down around 110'. My dad's goto is the apex and he does well, while I am pretty loyal to spinners and hootchies. Always like having the chance at a nice bull every now and again while picking up my kokes.

I was at LBC fishing on Friday and Saterday also, I'm sure I saw you just south of the ramp. I was in a 19' Allumaweld with a maroon top almost stright out from the dock (cove P.) in 220' of water and worked south ontill we ran out of fish then we would turn around. I was running my down riggers at 110 to 115' with both red hoocies and red or orange apex's all tipped with corn with srimp oil/ anise oil mix and everything was working. There was three of us and we had 5 rods out 3 for koks 2 for big fish (Rapalas) we ended up getting one small Bull on friday and a 22" rainbow on Saterday and all the Koks we needed.
We are heading back over on 3/4/ thur 3/6 to work up the M. arm out of three rivers where my friend has a place.
Thanks for your report and maybe will see you again.

Thanks for the kind words and additional reports.

Fishbox2 - Yes we did see each other, even exchanged the cordial wave.

Anyone ever run their VHF while out there? Turned mine on a few time and have never picked up any chatter. Maybe that,s just it.......no one wants to chatter, just fish!

I have one but have not turned it on, always thought of it as an ocean thing, what channel do you run?

You are right, mainly use mine in the ocean. While on the coast 68 & 78 seem to be the go to channels.
