Default Halibut fishing out of Westport

I am interested in going on an overnight Halibut trip out of Westport, so was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the charters. There are three or four of us interested in going.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I will try to find the threads from last year and post them. They had this question kicked around a bit back then.

Seaell_ I called down to Newport Tradewinds last week (1-800-676-7819) and they said they are still waiting to hear from ODFW about the dates. She said check back the middle of Feb and they'll know more. These trips book up fast so don't dillydally around. Its lots of fun-my 12hour trip last year turned into a 16hr as the Captain wanted us to limit out (we didn't).

If you are talking about Westport Washington. Try Phil Westrick on the Ultimate.Ultimate fishing

Phil fishes out of Westport he also goes to La Push for a couple of weeks. You want to see a virgin fishery try that trip.

I have had good luck with JoanE charters out of Depoe Bay just down the road from Newport, it's a little drive but less time in the boat to get to the Halibut grounds like the "rockpile" or "Heceta banks" They will tell you that they have the fastest boats on the coast. What this means is more fishing time on long range trips. They have some of the best equipment and most knowlegeable people I've met. Tuna fishing with them was unreal. Good luck!

Hey 401K, you have it a little flipped around. Heceta Bank is off of Florence, and the rockpile (Stonewall Bank) is west & southwest of Newport (closer than Depoe). The usual halibut spots are more/less straight out from Newport 32 miles, and a little out & down from Depoe. You're right in that most of the 43 ft Delta's out of Depoe are pretty quick, and get to the "Chicken Ranch" halibut area as fast or faster than most of the Newport boats. Have fun........Mark Mc

Go to the folks at Washington Charters. 360-268-0900. Ask for Kevin Vaserino, the Gold Rush, or Steve Westrick, the Hula Girl.
