Default Giant brookie rumors at Waldo

Anyone ever fish for the brookies in Waldo? I've heard that there are some monsters.
Tips, tecniques, where in the lake to fish?
A PM is fine with me!

I've heard the same thing but never have fished for them.
Now that no motors are allowed I probably never will because I wouldn't want to row around that lake at all.

Waldo is a huge ultra clear lake that has not been stocked for years. That being said it holds some large native Brookies, just not many of them. I have had my best luck tossing hardware around any structure (near shore) at the north end of the lake.Thats because I have never fished the south end. My best lure has been a 1/4 oz hammered brass Lhur Jensen krocadille. Keep in mind this was 15 years ago. I have had my best luck in the fall. Watch out for the small birds that look like large mosquitoes, they are!

I have never fish Waldo but I remember watching a Oregon field guide program that showed some nice size brook trout. With a little looking on Google I found it on-line. It is from 1997 but might give you some info about fishing for brook trout.

So i have fished for brookies in waldo many times. But i have yet to actually catch one. it is very difficult to catch them from what i hear and have experienced. If you drift along and there is little to no chop, you can see them. Big ones. but they are SPOOKY. But they arent "line shy", they are down right terrified by it. Light line, little spoons and LLOOOONNGGGG cast. But i do know an old man who gave me pointers, that i just gave you, who does catch them. Good luck.

i have caught them, some dandies just not what i have seen. for spin gear in there i throw either small gold little cleos or panther martins in the black body gold blade. but i think i catch more on the fly rod, one night i caught an awsome ant hatch and landed five or six fish over 16 inches. skeetshtr is right as with any high brookie lake and brook trout in general they are very structure oreintated so fish the wood and few rocky ledges.
