Re: First springer contest
Winner could provide a copy of their combined harvest tag to verify date.

Re: First springer contest
You could post the harvest card, but some of the not so honest people that would do anything for a prize would likely waste a punch for a freebie...I suggest you have to find a fellow ifisher and have them verify your catch. I have only met one other ifisher but i think it would work.

Re: First springer contest
how about in the picture the person has to hold up 4 fingers.. and yeah that would work.. 4 fingers up.. snap the photo..
or the person has to do a headstand.. and then snap the photo.. or hmm..
stand on one leg and take the picture..
or
they have to hold up a peice of paper that says
"springer"

Re: First springer contest
Designate various spots for registering the fish...most areas where springers are caught have a store or someplace close to the boat ramp where the springer could be registered...also a great opportunity to advertise ifish.

I like the store idea!!!
Marie wants to be the place, if it occurs on the coast.
Any other takers? Where else do I contact?

I think its just as simple as stated....wear your hat sideways and hold up 4 fingers....I think that would do it...and its simple.

Re: First springer contest
With a rumor of one caught, not verified, I have to get ON this!
Problems, do we have two contests? One for coastal and one for Portland? Columbia and Willamette? This is fine, but it starts getting spendy really quickly for me.
State rules for contests. Is the 50 dollar thing still valid? Need to check revised statutes.
Check points? Does that tavern in Sellwood still do pics? Leipzigs? (sp)
I think they should have to be a registered ifish person. That way, they have to introduce themselves to the community, if they are new. Not just anyone can enter...
What happens if someone catches a late fall nook on the coast, and it still is bright? Unlikely, but I've seen it happen.
Check point here would be Marie's Tillamook Bait Shop.
Check points in Portland, GI Joe's, Fishermans? Where else?
Fliers... I'll need to make fliers with rules, right?
I'm just throwing out thoughts... Any more?
I'm willing to get a Lami 80 MBCT Pro Bouncer back bouncer like the one I just purchased. I love it! That would be a great prize!
-- OK, guys... I'm listening. What do we need to do to get this going?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Jen

Re: First springer contest
Jen,
Great idea, my thoughts......
* Split the contest between the coast and the valley.
* Must have dated photo validation.
* Limited to ifish members.
Call Jack Glass ( 66-JACKS) and ask him if they would be a validation point at the snack and tackle. There are always some early springers taken on the lower Sandy every year so a place on the east side would be nice. They already post pictures of peoples fish in the window at the deli.
Just my $.02,
JK

Ok... see, I think we have to have two contests, because of the different opener times. Coast opens later...
Eeks!

Re: First springer contest
Someone's got to throw in a monkey wrench, don't they?
What if the first springer caught is a native and has to be released? It's still the first springer, which is what it's all about, but it couldn't be checked in anywhere. It could only be verified by picture or witness.
Hmmmm.....sorry. But if it wasn't addressed before the start of the contest it could cause problems later.

Dang !! Sjp...are you a detective or something in real life??
Jen...personal opinion is that your making it to difficult...checkpoints seem to me to be way to complicated. KISS this thing! But maybe I am too trusting....

First springer contest
I have to figure out a way that we can verify a first springer on ifish, so that we can have a contest.
How can we prove it was caught this year?
We'll need a photo, but I've got lots of springer photos!
How could we check it was THIS year?
Honesty is great, but I'm also trying to get a GREAT prize for this one!!!
Jen

Re: First springer contest
How about including the most recent newspaper front page in the picture? It might look a little like one of those hostage videos, but it's a pretty good and easily available method of proving the date of the image.

Re: First springer contest
A digital camera can put the date and time on the photo too. No fair backdating your camera though.

Re: First springer contest
Here's a thought on validation;
The person would need to be wearing an ifish hat  when the pic is snapped. This could also be a possible solution if someone nails a nate. We know the hats were not available last year.
And no, Jen didn't offer me any commissions for promoting hats

Re: First springer contest
Darn few of us have an Ifish hat. Following the KISS principle, the easiest thing is for any photo to show the lucky angler kissing his springer. Simple.

Re: First springer contest
OK, think this has been suggested in one fashion or another but here goes:
*Hatchery fish only ( Don't want to set a bad example of people trying to photo and release wild fish. Seen some pathetic release methods for steelies this winter.)
*Ifish registered members only
*Must be taken to a retail outlet as determined by Jen, and photographed with employee with contact name an number.(limit outlets to keep simple)
Been trying to hold off on becoming obsessed with springers to early, but with all the F4 talk and now this ...so much for that.
Let the fun begin!!!

Re: First springer contest
Just hold up four fingers, or three, or stick a cigar in the mouth of the springer, or a small branch with a leaf on it.

Re: First springer contest
Hey Jennie are you going to sell ifish hats at the sportsman show. If so are they the same price. Between books for school, gas, and all the fishing stuff I lose, I dont think I can afford a 12 dollar hat..lol. But I will see what I can do.

Re: First springer contest
Yes, I will be selling them.
I think they will still be 12.50.
Sorry, but this really is a good price for hats, as far as I can tell, by shopping around.
I'm going to post a new post on the springer contest, trying to develop the final rules.
Thanks!
Jen
