KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
I am bored after not working for three weeks and not being able to get the boat out the last few days so I was just curious...
What color/ size is your favorite kwickfish?
What length leader and dropper do you use?
What is your favorite scent?
Do you wrap it?
It is all personal preference so let's see who is open and honest.

Heck, if you're stuck at home, you should decorate some Kwikies! Here's my fave with obvious enhancements.

k-15 Double trouble, with a little "custom" lime green on the lip and tail, sardine wrapped. 36 - 40" dropper, long leader (5' or so).
Also don't overlook the k-15 "cop car" in off color water....really.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
I'm kinda partial to this one
I use a four foot leader and a 24 to 30 inch dropper. I have a stack of others that I like as well, that are all some variation of silver and chartreuse. I'confident with any kfish that is swimming well. I don't think color matters much. AS long as there is chartreuse, or silver, or both.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
Not sure which of my knockoffs are my favorite because I havent gotten them in the water yet, but since I couldnt get to work the last couple days I made some quickfish shaped lures out of cedar, painted them up and put an epoxy finish on them.
This is the "Jeff Melberg" signature series, because I wanna be just like Jeff
Some I squared up the nose, some I narrowed down the tail, trying to see what kind of different wiggle I can get out of a wood plug. I ran out of screw eyes and couldnt get to the store to complete them, but soon these will be in the water, maybe swimming, maybe not
My biggest complaint about Quickfish is, if the eye isnt centered the plug wont run true, I have a new appreciation for getting that eye centered

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
How many fish do you hook on the belly hook?? This is my first year using qwik fish and I was told to remove the belly hook to make it easier to remove from the net. I went six for six this year with the qwik fish, so not sure on the hook up ratio without the belly hook (have not hooked enough to see yet) but at this point it looks like I don't need it. What are some thoughts on this?
And my favorite scent is Procure Double Red egg cure (mixed with water to make a brine). Soak the sardine wraps in this for a couple of days prior to fishing, it not only toughens the wraps, it puts off a really nice scent trail as well! It outfished plain wraps two to one on the fall chinook this year.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
fishingfirst, You don't need the belly hook to be there. But, if you remove it you should replace it with a small weight to retain the proper action of the lure. Think of the belly as the balance point of the plug. If you go lighter (without hook) the plug will swing more (from side to side.) IMHO you want a tighter action for chinook.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
So I can add prism tape to them and it shouldn't hurt. I do that to my wobblers but haven't seen it much on kwikfish. I have this blue prism tape that looks like fish scales that I put on my wobblers and flashers in the ocean and it seems to be deadly. I might add it to a blue k-14 that I have.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
This one was in the water for 10 minutes before it got it's first fish. A beauty about 20 pounds on Knucklebuster off of The MC.
It's pretty funny that his 10 year old nephew put him on it. He stood there with his hands on his hips, like an Old Salt and said "Better git two."
The rerig was learned here on Ifish.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
Shane too cute.
I would have to go with a fickel pickel or chrome with chartruese butt. I add an extra large split ring on both hooks to get them back a bit.

I'm sure most of you have already heard that Pro-Troll is going to release an e-chip enhanced Kwikfish called the Stingfish this spring. They already released an e-chip enhanced Apex lure called the Stink King.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
I use a k14 lemon head mostly I do use some of the old lemon lime heads also.
I run a 4 ft leader up to a sliding sinker set up with a 1 ft drop leader for the lead.
I am mostly fishing small rivers as I do not have a power boat. to be honest I catch far more fish back bouncing bait then I do on kwik fish.

Re: KwickFish for Springers....Your Favorite?
Pete,
That's a great combo of two of my favorite colors (silver with the red clown dots + silver with chartreuse head and/or tail) and my other favorite is the fickle pickle. I fish K14s when there's decent water clarity and K15s in the dill pickle pattern (glow in the dark green) juiced up with a flash bulb when offcolored. I add a second "O" ring and replace the stock hooks with Owners. I wrap my plugs with sardines and have experimented a bit with different scents. I've had the most success soaking the sardines overnight in a combination of Columbia River water, rock salt, squid oil, and Dr. Juice's concentrated formula.
