Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Ah the agony and the ecstasy of new-boat-itis. I need support from fellow fishers that are lucky enough to have ordered a new boat but now have to sit back and wait for it to be built. Due to a screwup, my order got in after the Seattle boat show so I am looking at a long wait before champagne and launch. I ordered a 21' North River Seahawk which is great but have to wait until probably July for delivery, which is not so great. Let's hear whats on order from others who are in the same situation as myself which should help us all to get through these tough times.

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Can you describe to us the symptoms of yo condition? I can guess a few -ghost tiller wrist flex, the embarassing "sounding like a boat-in-open-trottle" (embarassing in public only-like a crowded elevator),over the bow glance. to name a few....

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
You could start a new hobby to take your mind off of it, but you won't have time after you get your boat. How about doing all of your chores and prep your fishing equipment?
I mean, you need the time to prep and shop for new stuff, so it is really an advantage to have to wait for your boat, right?

I would be willing to share (dump) my yard clean up chores with you to help pass the time. That way I would have more time to fish. Or you could take up golf!

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Darth,
I thought I had it bad. My boat is due to arrive on or before May 10. Sorry to hear about the screw up. Here's what I have coming:
22' North River Seahawk
8' beam
.250 x 82" bottom
18 degree deadrise
70 gal gas tank
Hydraulic steering
225 Yamaha 4 stroke.
8 hp high thrust yamaha 4 stoke kicker with elec start and power tilt.
Offshore bracket for engines.
Two tone side paint.
Dual Batteries
Dual bilge pumps, one on auto switch.
Dual Wipers.
Fish box in floor, aft.
Welded removable top with side and backdrop curtains.
Bow anchor nest.
Weld on downrigger brackets.
High pressure wash down pump.
Etc...
I have some friends who I hope will call me when they go fishing. Plus, it can't hurt to take a guided trip. There was a guide on Tillamook Bay with a Seahawk. I might give him a call. See how he has it set-up.
I go to sleep every night, (almost) thinking about our new boat. I still can't believe it.
You're not going to break the champagne bottle, are you? You should drink it.
I'll keep you posted.

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Ordered a new 25 foot Almar around the first of October. It is now under construction and is supposed to be completed and in my possession around the middle to end of April. It's been a long wait and I've spent way more than I should buying trinkets for it. Also gives a person too much time to think of extras that you just have to have on it. Excitement level has risen dramatically since construction started and it takes shape.

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
In 2000, I ordered my NorthRiver early January, and it was delivered in June. Was supposed to be 6-8 weeks!
It was worth the wait though!

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
I didn't order my NR. I came home one day and the wife says come with me. A 40 min drive and there was my new NR all ready to go. Sign on the dotted line, hook it up, a walk-around tour and we were on the road.
Nice wife

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
I put a deposit on a boat yesterday and expect to get it around the last weekend of the month. If you are patient that doesn't seem all that long compared to the folks that are waiting months. But I am feeling like the wait is going to be very hard on me due to the timing. I am going to get my current boat out of the water today so I will be out of commission until the new one is ready. Opposed to most others hopes, I for one am hoping for the spring run to be late. I know this is a bad attitude but I am worried about being able to handle seeing everyones posts showing off spring chrome.
Take a deep breath, put the catalog down, walk away from the order form, think about all that moss in the yard.

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
It's a big purchase and I'm picky. I'm willing to wait. I am usually not this way. I've always bought my trucks off the lot, but you can't customize trucks from the dealer like you can aluminium boats. If I run into Leroy's long wait, I'll die.

You guys are killing me, what about all of us that have to do with that old leaky boat from years past, the closes thing to new will probably be the tags. And the adventures. Keep the faith and you will get your toys..........Ray

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Hopefully you won't have to wait that long. When they were building mine, they had a problem with jigs, moved, and moved part of Bentley's boat tops in at the factory. At least that's the excuse I got when I called and asked where my boat was.
It takes longer to be better I suppose...

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Gee..I guess I'm in it with you guys. Good things are worth waiting for, however..
The timing on your boat depends on what you order. Cookie-Cutter boats can be driven home from the showroom. Other boats, with more options take longer to build, and depending on what the demand is, or the "jig" schedule will determine your timetable.
For me..It's a 22 ft. North River Scout(84" bottom, 102" beam), with about 9-10k's worth of options. The wait will be a long one (Not really...but it'll sure seem that way). Best find things to do and complete, so's when the new one gets here one can spend lots of time dirty-in' it up with fish blood.
And until the new one gets here, those that got to sat in my old one get to pay me back!

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
Another North River on order, mines a 23' Seahawk with hardtop. Due sometime in June, but I did get to go fishing yesterday with a buddy, which helps ease the pain of waiting!!!
I've learned the hardway, that getting what you want is worth the wait. Kept my last boat just 2.5yrs, and new after about 3months that it wasn't what I really wanted!!! Fortunatly I bought it right, and didn't get hurt too badly, but I would've spent a lot more time on the water over that 2.5yrs if it was more to my liking!!!
So my vote is do your homework, bite the bullet $$$, and get what you really want.
Cory

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
MW: mine is similar to yours except shorter and soft top; has outbracket, 200 and 15 suzuki 4S with front controls, dual wipes and bilge, washdown, Air Rides, transom and floor fish boxes, covered bow with hatch.
Everybody; thanks for your ideas, I've got plenty of chores to do around here without cleaning out your garages, yard work etc. I'm able to suppress the tremors a little bit by buying the boat accessories. With 4 months to wait I'll probably have satellite connection to IFISH set up by the time its delivered. Just repeat, "It'll be worth it and there will be some fish to catch", "It'll be worth it and there will a fish to catch", "It'll be worth it and it dont matter whether there will be a fish to catch"....

Re: Waiting 4 Boat Support Group (W4BSG)
I too am in the waiting- shopping mode. I just put in an order for a Custom Weld Storm sled. Won't start build until 13 April, and then supposed to have it mid-May. Just searching the I-fish for "needs" to put on the boat. Any recommendations on anchor systems for the Columbia?
