Default Triploids

OK so they have planted these things all over the place and a few have been caught, probably by accident. So what happened to the rest? Has anyone put in the time to figure these things out? I know a couple of local lakes and am going to try some things and spend some time and see if I can report anything. I'm thinking suspended bait.

Anyone have any success fishing Triploids??? How did you catch yours?

I live near Rufus Woods (Columbia River between Grand Coulee and Chief Joseph Dams) and have been fishing for both Triploids and natives for years. I tried to attach one I caught on the 23rd, it is in my photo gallery, caught it trolling a fly, sinking line, very slow - the slowest speed on my electric in a 13 foot boat, 5 wt. rod, took 25 minutes to land, these are tough fish and great fun. My grandkids catch them from the bank with everything from blue fox spinners to power bait. Wife caught an 8.5 on power bait this summer. Let me know if you have any questions,
Matt

Any color wedding rings spinner as long as it is green. I re-tye them on 4 lb test with a size 4 hook and about a 4 ft leader. 4 is the magic number. I use a ball bearing swivel to the main line as I have had the 4 lb test break from getting twisted before. I also replace the blade they come with with something a little larger for the big trout and match the color to the weather conditions. Silver for sunny days and bronze or gold for cloudier days. Tip the hook with about half a nightcrawler and sometimes put a little pro cure trophy trout gel on it too. Then I troll them very slowly with usually just one split shot above the swivel. I hammer stocked trout in lakes on this setup and just change it around slightly (usually just the blade size) depending on where I am fishing and what not. Here is a stringer full of 18 inchers from last spring..... Good eating too........

I believe that the (recently Broken) world record rainbow from 2007 (a triploid...the legitimacy discussion has been had) was caught on a mepps syclops in firetiger. The new record at 48# was caught on a Rapala although I could not find mention of the color pattern.

I am looking at your rod holders there. What can you tell me about them? not sure I have seen anything like them before. I usually just figure a way to lash them to the side.

CWOregon...That is some nice looking meat for fish out of the hatchery...Most trout we have are pale looking meat thus the flavor of the meat is not as good in my opinion. Good job!

Ya they were good eating. Smoked most of the fillets whole with a brown sugar/cracked pepper rub on them after brining them in water, sugar, and kosher salt...... Yumm! Can't wait to get some more this spring.... Lots of fun trolling for them with ultralight gear and watching the rod just bury.
