Default Merwin/Yale

I hooked up the boat for the first kokanee trip of the year. I figured I would decide my decision for a destination on my way there. I usually take the backroads up through Yacolt so I wasn't sure which lake I would go to or whether the gate would be open (Yale). So I decided to give Yale a try and ended up catching 3. It was more than I expected this early. Caught them flat lining willow leafs and a homemade chartreuse & red wedding ring spinner. Has anyone tried fishing either of these 2 lakes this weekend/recently? I think the Kokanee will be big this year because all 3 were around 11-12 inches. That is quite large for Yale this early. Some years they are only ~6-8 at this time.

Cool Re: Merwin/Yale

I don't know about the fishing, but I do thank you for sharing your report. Many of us are getting antsy to get out. I am counting on that ready nice one week of good weather we usually get in Feb. to get out. With El Nino this year maybe we can get more then a week of nice weather in Feb.

The boat ramp at Merwin should be good as the water level is only 6' below full pool this morning. In contrast the level at Yale is 14' below full pool which makes the docks at Yale park unusable.

Sounds like you are trying to divert our attention to Yale because the fish in Merwin are actually !

I was simply trying to provide a good report in hopes that others would do the same.

Maybe they were small Chinook and not Kokanee....

Guppyslayer, any chance that those 11-12 inchers were Chinook. I have heard that they are now in Yale? That is very unusual for the Kokes to be that big this early. Congrats on the good catch.

Hello Koke Fans!! Has anyone recently been down to Yale lately?

I am thinking about heading down there this Saturday the 10th. Please let me know. I run a 14 foot duroboat with electric downriggers and am also looking for a fishing partner or two for future trips.

You should also post in the "Open Seats" forum if you are serious about getting a rider.
