On line polling
The board is a great place to ask questions.
However, for various reason, we get a somewhat mixed view on things.
With online polls, we, at ifish, would have the ability to ask a question and get better answers, a truer sense of community sentiment because you can only vote once.
I am willing to spend the money on this, if you think that this would be a helpful addition to ifish.net.
Perhaps sponsors could use the feature, also.
I would ask the readers of the board to help create questions that we really want to know.
I think it would be great fun, and would help us annonomously figure out how people feel about certain issues.
You can vote how you really feel, without having to reveal your identity.
Fun? Useful? I think so!
This is what I have been thinking of buying ifish for quite some time.
Before I hit the purchase button, I would like your feedback!

Re: On line polling
That could be really interesting. Bet you might find uses for it you never thought of. Would be great to get a poll on the matters that turn into flame posts. I think many of the Ifishers would like the option of expressing their opinion in this way without resorting to getting entangled with some folk's overzelous debating, bickering and or bashing. Thanks for asking Jen, I would say go for it!

Re: On line polling
Does this take place within the discussion board, or is it a seperate site? What kind of questions are you considering, got examples? Personally, I'm not sure that this would be good if it ends up diluting the discussion board. That's just my initial response. On the other hand, hmmmm, well maybe.

Re: On line polling
Jen
I like the idea on the surface, but I am not sure what kind of questions might be asked. I assume you will be asking the questions, or can people like Waterdog ask if others think he is a cracker because he cant catch a sturgeon (like we need a poll for that )
Depending on what it would cost, verses what information you might recieve back that you have been wanting to tabulate. I would guess it would revolve around how many $$$ it would cost. A call to be made by you, unless we get a rich donor who wants to pick up the bills.
I am usually surprised when I see the results of a poll. How can so many people not see the answer to the question the same as me.   Could I be wrong,.... hmmmm.... Nah!

Re: On line polling
No, I'm not going to be using it to solve personal differences, that is for sure!
I thought about questions like preferred tackle, what bait where? Low water techniques, how to? Multiple choice answers...
River level sites, which one is best?
Broodstock, good or bad?
Honesty... ethics, etc...
I am counting on you all to come up with some good ones!
Jen

Re: On line polling
Polling would make the site more interesting. A more interesting site would generate more activity (hits). More activity would generate more income from the sponsors. Do it!

Re: On line polling
We have a large user base here and that would tend to give a pretty strong reaction to certain new products from people.
I was thinking it could be a useful tool for sponsors also.
With this software, the ability exists to hide the results. I don't know how many would participate with this kind of operation, as half the fun or more is seeing the results.
Anyway, it's something to consider.
Could be a very useful tool to find out where people's heads are at, when you are developing a new product.

Darn, I was hoping to get an honest answer to "What is Katie Couric's home phone number?".
Seriously, I think it is a good idea.

Re: On line polling
Maybe we could test the software by taking a poll to see if we need polling software
Jen, are you serious about the cost??? If it’s more than a couple hundred bucks I say forget it.
We already know Bait is ugly like his boat, and a poll wont make him taller.

No, it's not 5 grand!!
I was kidding.
I can handle the cost just fine, thank you, though!
Off to put the roast in the oven.
Here, Kilchis!

Re: On line polling
How will it be? Can we still do both? Sounds like fun but, there is always more to it. Sorta like a story that comes from some of us square pegs that can't be put in a round hole. Open forums are a good way to get opinions and a story that doesn't come with a automated polling forms.
Ok, it is probably harmless but I still like everyones opinion in written form vs. the FACT is 10% of us use Vision hooks, 80% Gammi, 15% Musatad or Eagle Claw and 5% use something else. Out of 12 anglers responding.I guess statistics are not that boring.
This kind of thing sounds like it could get info that could be sold if someone were inclined. Maybe some source for income for ifish. Hmmmm where do you get these polling things?
I guess statistics are not that boring. In fishing for answers there are different ways to get them and it might cause some readers to think.

Re: On line polling
Hi Jen, sounds interesting to me. If you want it do it. I dont much care about the feature that keeps your idenity a secret. Shouldn't say things you are afraid of anyway.
I was up on the Kilchis the other day. Looked for your place but did not see it.What a great place to live.

Re: On line polling
It's not that it's private, cagey, it's just that you can only vote once, you know.
That way, you can't vote 10 times cuz you love hot shots the best, etc....
Most people are honest, but this feature has merit.
Jim, that's awfully nice of you!

Re: On line polling
Jen,
I like the idea of polls. To save money go to hotscripts.com and grab a free script. Theres a lot of good free polling software out there, no need to pay.

Re: On line polling
I've done a lot of research. In order to have the ip tracing, you have to buy your own. Plus, the ones that are free have to support their banners.
I dunna like that. :depressed:

Re: On line polling
Jennie, I think it could be very useful in determining various products, favorate rivers, and what we think of the next survivor. Ooops, I mean the use of the hatcheries in salmon propagation. It would give you some insight into many points that will help this site. Go for it.

Re: On line polling
The real trouble with on-line polls is everyone lies. Combine that with THIS group ...
the result is truly meaningless statistics.
still sounds fun! !
