Default Brownlee perch.

They are starting to bite around the docks at Hewlett. Some hitting the foot long mark....

Oooohh!! Might have to make a run out there. Do you need a boat? Does the bait matter much? Thanks.

They're fishing off the dock but a small rowboat would be nice. Water is up a lot from November and the Powder River arm is getting full. A few more feet would be nice.

Worms with a pinch of some kind of Crappie bait. Don't remember the name of the stuff.

So are they jumbo perch or just 6 to 9 inch perch? I love the years that the jumbo perch are in, biggest perch I have seen caught there is 17 inches.

Lets see now Sportsman's show this weekend, then Brownlee next weekend. That works now to convince my cook it's an early summer over there

No. Short flurries of action on the days they bite then they are gone for a few days. Typical for this time of year.

The crappie bite is wide open out there and no one is fishing for them!

Jason, crappie are being caught. I don't know about "wide open" but the 1 boat I know about going out last week caught crappie. Still can't say if it's worth the drive over as it can change quickly this time of year. Real mild temps last week but no runoff yet. Wish I had time to go out but I need to finish a lot of projects at the ranch before my fishing season starts. If I hear any reports from town I'll post them up.

Right on. I just got my portable finder. I'm going to try to dial in on them in this pond out here. So far no luck, but if I can find them with the gadget, it may change the game. :>

FF - keep me informed - I might be willing to do an overnight to Brownlee. If the crappies are biting I know a place that would pay off... Could take my little truck and little boat. Would also love to get some of that perch action!

Wow, is that a 1x8 the fish is laying on? That's a heckuva a crappie, how far off the "normal" size is that one?

That crappie is not local. It's large, but not unusual. Texarkana has beer and good crappies. :> Crappie Chaser has got some that size on Brownlee some years.

They've been fished out since, but when I first moved to Oregon, (95) Fall Creek had Crappie that would make that one look like a dink (it's a good fish by average standards none the less).
