Default Kelley Point Slaughter 1/16

Great day on the water today. I had to move around a couple of times before I got into any fish but when I finally dropped anchor for the third time it was prime fishing. The first fish on the third spot was a 58 inch monster  I had my bait in the water no more than 4 minutes when she struck. I was so used to staring at a motionless pole that I was digging in my cooler when I heard my drag ripping. I turned to look and found my rod tip in the water  It was a fierce bite for about 40 minutes or so then it died. I ended up with about 17 fish to the boat in that spot with 5 of them keeper size.
After the bite died I tried a couple other holes but only found a couple little shakers willing to play. I saw a couple of boats at the dock with keepers but most of the people I talked to said it was slow.
Thanks John, I owe you one

You know... maybe you could tell a couple of anglers that don't fish there where exactly or at least in the vicinity of where you were? We are going to try it tomarrow but we usually fish in the washougal area or the rigefield area. Any pointers would be nice and if you want some info from me ill tell you were we got 2 16lbs steelhead along with about 4 released yesterday and where i picked up 3 more this morning. (one weighing in at close to 14lbs.) Thanks a bunch and good luck!

Gotfish?, you will if you go to the place where the Willamette River joins the Columbia River. This is also known as 'Kelley Point'. You will find several boats anchored right at the river mouth most any day of the week. From Portland head down the Willamette about 7 miles from the St John's bridge.

Good luck. BTW a sense of humor is required since the usual players will see you as an invader.

Dont stay in one spot, If they are not biting go find them. Look for people standing up in boats, if there are enough people out there. find the edges of holes on your graph. the fish have been moving in anticipation of fresh smelt so they are sometimes not in the same place two days in a row. Good luck

Got Fish,
If you know where Kelley Point or Terminal 6 is, your in the right area. I will be out and about on the river in the morning looking for a couple more limits. A tid bit of good advice would to read Pilar and Fishin Magician's post above. I will add that the fish are moving a little which makes it a little easier. Graph a hole that you find and if the water is really flowing out, fish the back end of the hole. I found the fish would back down to the back of the hole I was fishing when the tide started to cook.
Kelley Point is pretty hot if you can get into the kill zone. If not, your wasting precious time. There is a slot that you need to be in to cast into the hole (102 feet or so). If you don't want to play with 20 boats jockying for position, show up before sunrise! If you don't mind the circus, bring your peanuts and enjoy the show. There are some pretty good spots around the cranes above the point. I do agree with the Magician about the fish not being in the same spot a couple of days in a row. Move to you find them. If you do not get bit within 15 minutes, move. Good luck to you and if your on the river in the morning, look for a Bluish/Green Renegade. I will be the one yelling Fish On
