Default Homemade spoons

Anybody make their own spoons. I have recently entered into the club. Its pretty cool to make a potential fish catcher from a piece of stock.

Hopefully I will find enough time to go fish them some and catch something. Wonder what I been doing...hmm

Marty
I have wondered what you have been doing, Havent seen you much here lately, last I heard you had been on the road promoting the bearded lady portion of the show for the circus.  I always love going to the circus when in town, grabbing a bag of popcorn and kicking back in my chair laughing at the performers center stage. It is amazing what an act they can perform when they practice it enough.

I have tried to make a few wobblers, but never a heavier spoon. I tried stainless and it was very difficult to cut, and the problem with aluminum is electrolyisis and it doesnt hold a shine very well. I think brass is the way to go and then either have it chromed, or possibly paint them.

What have you been using for stock and how thick is it? Are you hand cutting them out, or have you made a press to punch them out? Once they are cut flat, how are you pounding in some bends? I would think laying them over something round and pounding on them would be the ticket for making just a few spoons. Getting multiple bends like a little cleo would he harder to be consistant in the hand pounding process.

Roy
presently by hand...consistency...not. No punching here its grind and pound. If I find a really good spoon I may go the next step of making a punch but not yet.
Brass flat bar stock
Can electroplate ..thats coming
.063 thickness on the ones right now.

The best anvil pound is to make a piece of curved hard wood and beat the sucker into the shape.

I cut the thing to shape with my dremel...probably better with a metal scroll saw then final grind to shape. But living and learning is some of the fun
sick of popcorn!!
