Slingshot Dude
Was reading an article the other day in I believe Field and Stream,The guy I was reading about was a dude who had a homemade slingshot rigged up to his truck bed at Bonneville Dam.I couldn't believe this contraption.Does any one know this guy?I heard he'll shoot your line out for you for a price.

Re: Slingshot Dude
I dont know him but I have talked to somebody who had a large slingshot set up a couple years ago.
He parked his trucks front tire on the sing shot to anchor it.
A reel wont dispatch line as fast as his sling shot shoots the bait. He took most of the line off reel and wraps it around a 5 gallon bucket facing the direction he wants to shoot it. He puts the bait/sinker in the sling shot and really stretches it out. When he lets it fly, it was unbelieveable how far he shot it out there.
Then he puts the line on the bucket that didnt get used in the cast, back on the reel.
Pretty slick actually.

Re: Slingshot Dude
I know this guy his name is Bobby. He's retired and used to guide for sturgeon. I see him about once or twice a week. He picks up donations from one of my accounts for some charity organization. If you want his # let me know. As to someone that said that their arm works just fine. There isn't a person on the planet that can cast 8oz of weight 200 yards with 15 lb test line. You have to use that test otherwise the heavier line won't play out fast enough. To consistantly get to the deep hole that they catch most of the fish, they have to use the catapult.

Re: Slingshot Dude
Why do we throw lead out there knowing we will likely break off? Think about all the damn lead in the bottom of the Bonneville pool. Jeez. Hasn't someone come up with a way to tie a rock/boulder to their sinker line and sacrifice it instead? I'm not an econut, but lead is not good when it is expected to be lost. Kinda like why the NYPD came out with Nyclad bullets. No one needs it in there bodies, either through the air we breath or the fish we eat. Doc

Re: Slingshot Dude
Dr. Strangelove, how are you going to get a rock way out into the river where the sturgeon are without a boat?

Re: Slingshot Dude
Hey..I throw lead out there too, but I don't expect it to "likely" break off. Very seldom do I lose lead. If you wanna harp about pollutants in the river, get the City of Portland to quit dumping raw sewage in the Willamette or....(on and on)!
As for "Slingshot Bob"...I saw him in action a few years back, and his contraption is probably the next thing better than firing your setup out of a cannon. Quite impressive, really.

Re: Slingshot Dude
I've actually watched this guy launch 'em off of the front of his Ford Ranger. The slingshot was welded to his bumper, I believe. He's a small guy, so he even wears a overdone scuba diver's weight belt, to he can pull the sling back further. When he releases, it is unbelievable. With different rigs, he actually has to back off so he is not too close to the opposite shoreline.
I have seen this show at the deadline on Bradford Island a couple of times. Pretty impressive gadget.

Re: Slingshot Dude
Dr. S years ago when boats were aloud past the dead line they would bring out lines that had a rock used for a sinker. Can't do that any more also guys used to run the remote boats out with the sinker and drop them, Can't do that any more. Things change and lead is the only way to do it at this time. How much pencil and slinkey lead do you think Salmon & Steelhead fishermen loose every year?

Re: Slingshot Dude
The guys at bonneville went from using remote controlled air boats to run the baits out(the state outlawed that). Then they used a throwing stick with the same bucket set up the sling shot uses. Then came the slingshot. Mostly inventions made by the guys who couldnt cast  .
