Lake Oswego Bassin'
Hey all~
I am a new member to ifish, and just had a quick question. I bass fish february through october every year and pretty much spend my winters researching and trying to find new techniques and strategies. I have been hearing a lot about Lake Oswego lately holding some toads. In fact saw some pictures of a lady who had caught what looked to be at least a 9 1/2 lber if I wasn't mistaken, who had also caught a few over 8. I was just wondering if there was any credibility to this. If so, I just moved nearby and was wondering if the lake has public access and if their are boats allowed on the lake.
Also, (as if i'm not asking too much as it is) how big is the lake and what sort of features does it have (depth, rip-rap, tree's, submerged structure, docks etc..) Thanks for any input!

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
I believe you have to own or be renting a house with water rights. I definately believe the big fish stories. I know a guy who has rights on that lake and you wouldn't believe the stories he tells. I think you also have to take a boating test as well or something like that. If you ever do get on the lake and need a backseater, I would be more than happy to fill the seat.good luck.

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
There must be big ones in there...there are tons of baby ones all over the place in the summer. Some huge bluegill too. There is very limited public access on the shore. But, it is in bluegill water and the bass are way back in the canals and under structure .

You cannot fish the lake effectively without rights to the water (you have to live in the right house and then pay an annual fee I think), but you are right there are some toads. I've seen fish on deep beds that would push the 13 to 14lb mark. 5lbers in this lake are nothing.

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
thats the trick, it costs a couple thousand to put a new boat in the lake, I know Rick Correa (of ricks top shelf) fishes it every once in a while because his website editor lives on the lake (or something along those lines). I have only ever fished it out of a kayak and can only dream of getting a bassboat in there.

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
The brutal part is that most of the people who live on the lake pay big bucks for water rights and very few, if any, fish the lake for bass! So the short answer is: unless you live on the lake AND fork over big bucks initially then an ongoing fee, no, you can't fish it. Just think of all those big, unmolested hogs just waiting.....

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
Thanks for all the input guys. I suppose I will just have to dream and tell everyone how I COULD catch a ten pounder there! If anyone does has access to this lake I would love to fish it, I would post gas money, even pay to fish it.
Tight lines...

The real question is how many can you catch before the LOPD gets ya!!
Note - This is just a joke, and not condoning illegal behavior, but it would be great

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
I haven't fished Lake Oswego for many years. try to give you guys some history back when I was a kid in the early 60s I've caught many bass mostly around 3 to 4 pounds . The lake at that time did not have many homes around the backside we used to walk down to fields to fish it. We caught many big crappie lots of bluegills in perch and of course large mouth bass. It was nothing to catch crappie weighing a pound to 2 pounds. We spent many evenings with my uncle back in the 50s also those were good times and we enjoyed ourselves as a kid fishing lake oswego I caught my first fish there when I was three years old I am 63 now up a lot of years have gone by but those were the most rememberable. PS if you go fishing there make sure that you take some black crank baits and work excellent or the largemouth in Lake Oswego.

Re: Lake Oswego Bassin'
That's interesting, Powder. I can imagine how cool it would have been to walk in to a lake like that to fish whenever you wanted, as I grew up one block from a lake of about the same size in NC, and it had some really good fishing in those days, but it's sourrounded by big homes now. As for having rights to fish it now, maybe we should all chip in and buy one of those little shanties with fishing rights.
I wonder how old that dam is and if there was a pond or meadow there before it was dammed? Anyone know? I looked up some history on the web, and all I could find was stuff about the early steel smelting days, as evidenced by the old smelter at G Rogers Park.
