Haystack might be your best bet for a lake fishery without a boat within an hour of Redmond.

you could also try Ochocco or prineville reservoirs, depending on the ice situation. Been a pretty mild winter over here so far, so they might be fishable.

i second the ochoco res. this has been a pretty decent fishery as of late. around the old restaurant has been providing. using marshmellow and worm, powerbait, and cured salmon eggs. for haystack it was stocked in december and has been doing ok. troll from where the canal comes in and go towards the boat ramp at the east side. theres a large plateau that seem to hold fish. wedding rings with worm, apex with white corn. Or if your willing to go a little further than haystack, lake billy chinook is doing well on kokes. the first ramp seems to be the best. make sure you have a fish finder to locate the schools. jig buzz bombs, nordics over the schools and you will hook a few. i live in redmond and its around a 20-30 minute drive to lbc. good luck and tight lines.

haystack is almost useless this time of the year for bank fishing. due to hardly any freshwater inlet, most of the fish are deeper down in the water column closer to the center of the lake where its not quite as cold. though the biggest brooder ive caught out of there was around early feb from the bank. just takes persistence. the cliffs near the fishing peir is the best place. just watch yourself or you will be tieing new rigs often. the cracks in the rock like to eat lures

Robbie, I know where you should be going instead... But, you have other plans already, weak! I text Ryan, told him to check Crooked River out up below Bowman Damn for the first several miles (if it's not flowing too hard). Call a local fly shop in the area before you head that way, if you do, they will let you know whats up. It might be gushing through there though. I used to catch a ton of trout down through there on flies. Have heard mixed reports on how good the fishing is anymore, since it has been ten years since I lived in the Bend area and hit that river a lot and no longer know first hand. But I agree with some other on fishing Ochoco Res. Also, if you make it up to Prineville Res by following the signs out of the east side of Prineville (not by following the Crooked up to the dam!) right before you get to the lake you can veer off to the right and there is a bank fishing area over there where people used to catch a lot of big trout in the winter on powerbait, of course. And there is another bank fishing spot right before the marina after Jasper Point where they used to catch a ton of trout. Call me if you need some directions or whatever!
