Default Steelhead line

What is your preferred line weight....8? 12? More? Less?? (this is in regards to your line, not leader) Just curious....looking for the "ask 100 people, get 100 opinions.

8# summer fish

10# clear water winter

12# everything else

I usually live on the edge and fish 10# pound the most with 8# maxima ultra green leaders. The line is changed frequently throughout the season.

I use 12lb to 20lb but that is because I really want a big 20lb buck that is my goal this year. But really it is want ever works for you, some people use 6lb I never do but and others use 20lb what ever gets you into fish, don't go catching them all.

Hey Bump,
Why Yellow?....I can follow the drift better. Not as important for me but vital when there are 4-6 rods out the boat at the same time.

12/6# Fusion with 10# fluorocardon leader. Fusion floats so I can mend the line while running a float n'fly.

Bump,I second what jim say's on hivis yellow line besides following the drift ,in the boat it makes communication better, When some one is fighting a fish on the bow of my 21' Alumaweld ,I can be back running the kicker and see what their fish is doin all the time. Cool tex, as far as line ,for boondogging/side drifting I use Izor line hi vis yellow 8#. For pulling plugs or divers & bait I USE Izor line hi vis yellow 15# or 20# fireline and a 3'nat. green shockleader with both.

Tex
Maxima Ultragreen in 10 - 12#. It is a low visibility line that performs great. I've used Maxima for over 20 years.
