Default Smelt Dipping

Ok this may seem like a silly question but I don't know so I will ask. Do you need a license to dip smelt in the Cowlitz? Where do I go? I remember smelt dipping with my father years ago but don't remember all the basics. How much can I get? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tim

Head for the cowlitz.

Limits is 10 pounds which is about 1/4 of a 5 gallon bucket. You can dip Wed, Sat and Sun between 6 am and 10 pm. Till the end of March.

You will see the people, and I mean hundreds if not thousands when the smelt are in numbers that are dipable. People dip clear up to Castle Rock, but you will see tons of people near the bridges at Kelso. Good luck finding a parking spot.

No license is required.

Swing the net from upstream towards downstream, staying near the bottom. Remove Smelt from net and do it again.

good luck
