Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Who has one and where did you buy it. I know you can order online but would like to actually hold one in my hand before plunk down the coin. Any other models you guys like for running downriggers? Thanks

Backlash, Try the Lamiglas 2pc. mbc702UL. 4-10 lb. Or G Loomis Cr 841 Single pc. Which I use. Or the 2Pc 842. 2-6 lb. Both good for DR. fishing for KOKS. Just depends on the dollers you want to spend.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
I looked at the lamiglas and it was a little too spendy for me. It was definitely a noodle though. Very well made. 2 Bros in Eugene used to have one or two in their shop.
Okuma Celilo Kokanee Downrigger - I got mine at Bi-Mart
For the money this is a okay rod. It is sensitive, you can see the bite and feel the fight.
I have kids and if for some reason it was broken I would not feel too bad.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
What was the guy at Okuma thinkin' about when he named that rod?
"Celilo Downrigger Kokanee Rod"
I don't think so.
jz
ps...but with water conditions there now and the sockeye returns of the last couple of years......

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Got the Lami 7'9" tournament kokanee rod for Xmas. It is a great rod and fun for trolling for kokes. I would not be able to spend that much on a rod for myself comfortably, but as a gift....bring it on it is great. Definitely has great noodle action. I am thinking of picking up the 7' Lami koke rod. Not as spendy but I think will have a similar action.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
I saw four of them in Redmond at that store with the giant red "R" on the front last fall so they are around if you want to hold one. I got an Anglers Touch Innerflow for fathers day last year and have been tickled pink with it.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
I just finished this kokanee rod on a Rainshadow RDR76L. 7' one piece blend of RX6 graphite and Eglass. Spiral wrapped with micro guides. Have another one to build but in the middle of another project right now. I love the action on these blanks...cant wait for spring!
Carbon fiber rear grip...cork foregrip:
Spiral wrapped
Micro guides

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Last summer I purchased two Lamiglass CG70DR rods at Fisherman's for $70 each and love them. They are fiberglass not graphite but are still light and strong. If you are very carefull with your rods graphite is great but if, like me you just throw your rod in the bottom of the boat while towing stick with glass. Glass is not weakend as much by nicks and chips; if you nick a graphite rod it will most likely break under strain. Graphite is also much more expensive than glass.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
I have a Lamiglas MB702ul and love it. I got a great deal online, just under $60.00.I was originaly going to buy the s-glass 7ft kokenee rod but the place I ordered it from was out and offered me the graphite one for the same price. what a deal! I also have an Okuma ce-c-702l Kokenee trolling rod that I got at Bi-mart for under $30.00 on sale. One I havent seen mentioned here is the Shakespeare ca11702ul kokenee special ugly stick. Bi-mart also carries them. A great ,tough rod for under $40.00. I have used the Shakespeare alot for flat lining spoons for trout.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Don't get the graphite! Sooner or later, that thin ferrule will explode under the constant strain of the DR. I have both and wouldn't trade the yellow glass Lami DR rods for anything when it comes to trolling kokes. They give any size fish an ultralight fight, and the 16"ers will leave you wondering if you have enough rod. I line em up with Yozuri hybrid and have never looked back. I recently broke a koke rod in a garage accident, but shed no tears - it was not yellow!

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
The red fiberglas kokanee rods are available at Ollie Damon's in Portland. I work at Ollie's and the rods are awesome. Great flex over length of the rod. All are 7'6 casting, $79.95.

More than twice what the aforementioned red kokanee rods at Ollie Damens are goin for. In fact just the blank and components on mine (wholesale) add up to more than the finished red rod at Ollies. Add the cost of thread, epoxies, labor and federal excise tax and it would be in the Buck fifty range. But then it does have that light weight carbon fiber rear grip. Oh, and spiral wrapped micro guides that were placed exactly where they need to be by carefully static testing and applying copious portions of patience while those little buggers flew off the blank and around the shop.

Capt Ron, I predict you will LOVE that rod for kokanee. I have one and it was my very favorite, until a guest on my boat broke about 8" off the tip Nice soft tip and just the right amount of backbone for hoisting fish up to about 13", plus dodger, and just the right amount to keep the fish over 16" under a modicum of control (too limp, and sooner or later an 18" fish is going around your prop
Any billiant suggestions for repairing the rod tip? If it was farther down the blank, I'd glue in a piece of another rod, but it's too skinny for that. Maybe I'll have to oversleeve it, or try a piece of stiff wire?
Backlash, lots of ideas, what did you decide to do?

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Even though I swore I'd never get another Lamiglass I got a couple 7" 2pc. Guides Choice models during the Xmas sale season at Big R stores down south here-$49.95/ea with case. Have used them for trout so far and like them. If I was wanting super nice custom envy me set-up I'd have TH make a couple up.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Makin a one piece rod a 2 piece is definately a bummer moknots. Especially 8" from the top.
Like most, I'm a better builder than repairer but I'm sure a repair could be made. Any splice that is made however will effect the action on that "soft" part of the rod because it will be difficult to find material with more elasticity. If you splice with a piece of graphite it will be too stiff. I think you have the right idea with oversleeving it. The challenge will be to find material fleixible enough to make a serviceable repair in that area.

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
Moknots, I did a similar repair job on my favorite old fiberglass rod a few years ago by using a piece of copper wire that just fit inside the blank and epoxying it in place, it seemed to be working well but the second trip I took with it after the repair, a kneeboard blew off the top of Betsy and landed on the rod in the holder pulverizing the blank right at the handle . I found that rod when I was three years old at Prineville reservoir, man did it have stories to tell through the years.

I'm with ya on the Okuma Celilo rods for kokanee. I can afford and don't mind spending the money on expensive rods but for the money the Celilo works great. Been using mine for 2 years now and have caught a lot of Kokanee with them. Of course I have $100.00 reels on them haha...so much for saving money!!!

Re: Lamiglas Kokanee Rods
There have been a few threads about this in the past. A lot of people, myself included, really like the Daiwa Spinmatic rods. For an inexpensive rod, they have great action and feel for those little buggers. They have 7' and 7'6" versions and either work well. I like the longer one on the downriggers a little better. Fisherman's sells them for around $35 regularly, but at the Sportsmans show last year, they discounted pretty good.
I'm very tempted to get one of the new Lami CG series koke rods. I bought a CG rod for springers last year, and the action of the glass rod is great. I may have to stop at Ollie's and check out theres as well. Could be a spendy show this year...

Bi-Mart has a sale on Lamiglas rods this week. The ad states 20% off on all Lami's. Curiousity killed the cat so I checked it out. They dont have the Lami CG70DR in stock in the Eugene store, but they will special order it. Regular price $69, but with discount it runs $51.36 !! Can have it within 5 days.
