Default fast action for a 4 year old

My boy loves to fish He has been on me everyday "PAPA can we go fishing?"

Hes 4 and want nothing more than to fish. I made the mistake of taking my oldest son steelheading on the sandy and he was ruined, fishless days with tons of people didnt make me a fishing buddy like I had hoped. That said I want him to have a good time catching fish. dont care if its perch or carp. Where would ya go? When? I can't afford to keep going to the you catch trout farm LOL

Do you have a Sauvies Island parking permit? A lot of the ponds on the island have trout in them and can be a ball for kids. Toss a float rig with a wriggly morsel of some type. I'd suggest using barbless hooks if you plan on releasing anything.

Also, Battleground Lake up north of Vancouver is open year-round and has some decent trout fishing from the bank. I'd suggest 2 power eggs or Gulp! eggs in chartreuse or green on a red size 8 Gamakatsu egg hook with 3 to 4 feet of flurocarbon 4# leader. On your main line, slip a 3/8 or 1/2 oz egg sinker with a bead under it. Barrel swivel connects main line to leader. Simple slip sinker rig.

They stock Mt.Hood community college just for kids and there's usually some big fish in there too. I'd look at when they stock it and take your son there. It gets so full of fish I once watcheda bald eagle sit in the tree and go down a bunch of times and grab a few fish. Good luck.

Canby pond! It's a kid only fishing pond. (well disabled are allowed too)

I'm hurting too, my 2 year old daughter has been asking every time we go through the garage. She plays with her rod and just a bobber on the end all the time. (even in the house )

EDIT: Duh, I should have looked to see if Kevin posted.

I agree. Canby pond is the place to take youngsters. My kids get fish every time we go there. Its right near the Mollala River and is surrounded by a nice park.

go on the ODF&W web site and figure out the trout stocking schedule. Learn how to use a slip sinker and a worm pump. Willing to travel? Hebo lake.

Thursday morning at Mt hood pond. first off we fished for 2 hours with no bites. water looks great. that said it was packed with people. We had a heck of a time finding a place to fish. we sw maybe one fish for about 50 rods. The guys next to us were smoking pot and drinking beer. I never saw so many guys with there pants falling down fishing. I left and called the cops and reported the drug use. So we are still looking for a place to fish.

Yep I openly admit it. I hate drugs. I lost one daughter to meth and pot. Thats her little boy in the pic on post 1 I am raising this young man now because mom blew her brains out with drugs.

Hi IFishers, just for your info. Mt. Hood pond is not stocked just for kids! It is for kids only from April 1- the end of August, the rest of the time it's open to anyone, check your regs., also a good set up is a slip bobber,3 ft. of line to start and size 8 hook, using rainbow power bait nuggets comboed with a piece of nightcrawler, about a third.
