Re: Detroit?
I did not actually go down there, but I saw a couple boats on the lake. I know the water is lower then I have ever seen it. at least down 40 feet from last year at this time.

Re: Detroit?
I was up there at the new ramp (the one for LOW water) this afternoon. It was pretty muddy/slimy. Water level is probably 200 or so feet from the new ramp built last year. They got it blocked off with concrete fences and pylons.
It started raining pretty heavy. I got my limit quick on powerbait and 1 bump of the lure.
Wish I brought my camera for the topography shots for the summer time. Now's the time to do it .

Re: Detroit?
Thanks for the updated graph. I'm not suprised its 130 or so vertical feet from full. It was a LOOONG way down if your trying to fish from the dam. Need a BIG "connected 2 spool" from Kmart!!
Time to take topo shots of the lake right now before the lake comes up.
Is that a USGS graph? Where can I find it for future use??
Thanks, Joel

Re: Detroit?
As of today, the new boat ramp at Mongold is unuseable due to low water.

Re: Detroit?
And blocked by concrete barriers.
Here's a question:
technically, your able to walk down the low water ramp"to be". Are you able to walk through the sides of it even though the poles are posted "closed area" to get to the shorelines??

Now I'm really confused (and I'm glad I saw this thread). I just saw today that Oregon St Park & Rec claims the Mongold ramp is now "open." I saw that notice here, it's the first sentence:
http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_91.php
So the ramp is "open" but still 200 feet from the water ? ? The park n' rec should clarify that on the website, to me "open" = "usable".

Re: Detroit?
The parking lot area is open. You can drive down the little road for the new ramp (the low water one bein built) but its blocked off so you can't launch. Maybe a float tube could get in...
The ramp is still closed.

Re: Detroit?
I fished Detroit off the bank 2 weeks ago and the low water ramp was open and usable then. I watched three boats lanch including a 22ft sled. There is no dock but the ramp in clean new concrete, and in the water.

Thank you for the clarification. It's a long way for me to drive to find out I can't launch

Re: Detroit?
As of today (Saturday 23rd) the boat ramp is open for now. Make sure you pay your 5.00+ entry if you go. Cops were out today!!!
I got my fish on the bank between 12;00 and 3:00 pm then the bite seemed to have died (probably just me???). 2 fish came on the 3/8 large orange kastmaster, the rest on the cheatin' powerbait. C/R'd about another 12-15 fish, fortunately the true-turn single hook worked and hooked them in the lip!!
Beautifull day today!!

As others mentioned, it was open on 1/23. I'd say there's a good 15-20 feet of ramp under water, if not a bit more. I couldn't tell because the water was a little muddy around the launch. There were a few boats in the 18-20 foot range on the water, my 16 footer launched with plenty of room to spare. The lake is still low, but there's plenty of room to get around. It's a really nice facility. Make sure you have $5 in cash, the fee station only takes 1s and 5s.
I caught two smaller trout, trolling a needlefish around 20-30 feet. Saw a few guys pick up fish from the bank too. Here are some pics:
View from the fee station, water is a little low...
Nice fresh concrete
View from the water
The island
Great day to be on the water!

Gotta head over to Redmond and back on Sunday...is the catching at Detroit worth stopping by for or should I keep on keeping on?

Re: Detroit?
Thanks all! Looks like its time to go get the boat ready. I thought/had been told the new ramp was unusable now.

Re: Detroit?
Great pics! Thanks for posting them. Its a long drive from St Helens to Detroit, but it is always worth the trip. I fish Detroit every winter season and have a blast catching lots of rainbows. A lot of small Chinook showed up in the take as well.
