So i have a buddy that says quality is important. He has spinnerbaits that cost as much as $15. I would never. I have been buying the lazer eye bass pro 1/2ozer's. just a tad over $3. I had a great year with them last year. no failures and LOTS of fish. White with the twin willow blades or black with the twin colorado's. If a had counted it would have been a close race this last year for bass caught worming and on these spinnerbaits.

My favorite would be a gold single colorado long shaft w/white skirt. Have caught at least twice as many fish with this one as any other. Gold is better on overcast days while silver seems more subtle on bright days. Just my Sure is nice to be home again, even unemployed!!!

I buy the cheaper ones, half the time I could not even tell you the brand name of the ones I use. this way I can afford to have different blade combos, different colors and different sizes and don't have to get insurance on them in case I lose one. I feel like that is more important than having the expensive ones that although may hold up better, I am not sure there is much of an advantage to them in terms of catching more fish. I have always thought different brands of safety pin style spinnerbaits, unlike crainkbaits, have a similar 'action'.

there is one that seems a bit different though, the lonnie stanley vibrashaft spinnerbaits do seem to have a different action and I do keep a few of those around. I used to fish for largemouth in oklahoma a lot and the vibrashafts were an excellent big fish bait.

Thats an easy answer.....there is no best spinnerbait!! There are components and features of spinnerbaits that make them better than others, and some are better than others only in certain conditions or situations. What I look for in a spinnerbait is quality components. 1) high quality ball berring swivel....flick the blade with your finger and see how smooth and long it will spin. If it catches or binds, that is what it is doing in the water as well....2) hook... must be strong and sharp, my preference is a gammy. 3) skirt....personal preference in silicone or rubber. Most commercially made spinnerbaits utilize silicon, better color selections, and longer life. Rubber has better action, limited colors available, and requires a bit more care. Personally I prefer a hand tied skirt, tends to breath a little better. Put all of these together, and you still have variables which will greatly effect the fishability of the bait. What blades to use, and what size of wire. different size blades, blade thickness, cup depth all effect the action, vibration, and blade swing. Wire sizes also play a major role in the final product, heavier wire= more durable=slightly less vibration and blade action... lighter wire= shorter life expectancy=more vibe.
I've made lots of spinnerbaits over the years, experimented, toyed around. You can really get creative. but like I say 3 most important things to remember to find the "best" spinnerbait...swivel, hook, skirt. you might check out http://www.gannstackle.com/.
