Default New World Record Bass Decision To Be Announced

The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) will be holding a news conference on Friday, January 8th at 1:30 p.m. ET to announce its decision on a potential All-Tackle world record of a 22 lb 4 oz largemouth bass caught this past summer in Japan.

The announcement comes six months after it was caught July 2, 2009, by Manabu Kurita of Aichi, Japan, and nearly four months since the documentation was received at the IGFA’s world headquarters in Dania Beach, Fla. USA.

What followed was extensive research and information gathering by the IGFA and its sister organization the Japan Game Fish Association (JGFA).

The IGFA never announces a decision via a press conference, so this is a major shift. And this could indicate a new world record is about to be announced.

Wasn't this fish raised in a private pond intentionally to be the world record breaker?

Apparently not....this bass was caught in Lake Biwa

Which is "the largest lake in Japan, covering some 259 square miles, and is said to be one of the oldest lakes in the world. It is surrounded by mountains and renowned for its beauty and deep (more than 300 feet), crystal clear waters."

After reading some really good discussion on the matter at BloodyDecks by a guy who lives in Japan, I really hope they accept this as the next record.

Even if they don't, I (and probably many other anglers) will certainly consider it the unofficial world record...

If you guys/gals haven't heard already,

The potential world record has been decided to be a TIE with the current W.R.

This info is on the IGFA website if your interested.

A 981 pound Tuna was caught in Japan a few days ago, thefishninja had the news translated for him by the japanese girlfriend. This is the biggest tuna ever in Japan since the 1980's. The tuna sold for $36,700 dollars. So just wondering what that record breaker bass sold for, or what the guy did with it. Japanese are pretty serious about fishing, that much is for sure. So awesome to get the world record news here on ifishnet and even before a lot of people know about it. Awesome post!
