Default WTB apple cider press

Just starting to look for a cider press, an hopefully can find one close. I can make my own, but don't wanna spend the time just now. So, I'm not gunna spend a fortune on one, but am willing to look at trades also.

Every year we have a family party at Halloween time to press all the apples from our trees. We rent the press in the Corvallis area. I would check with the rental places to see if they have any used they wanna sell or if they have a local manufacturer.

Also, BIG recommendation- get the largest size chopping motor available. Some of the electric motors are so small that one slice of an apple will stop them. Not sure if its an inferior blade design or weak motor. We quarter our apples and the motor should be able to handle that although some don't.

A press or a press/grinder?

If you want just a press, are you thinking a plate press or a basket press?

You'll find presses on Craigslist fairly often. One's with grinders are more rare. There's a guy dow your way selling home made basket presses that look usable at a fairly reasonable price.

Steinbarts in Portland rents their Correll grinder/press for $40 a day. These units are $1,000 and the $40 is dang cheap considering that you use it once a year. This is the same press I use that a friend owns and we put about 2,000 pounds of apples through it every year and it has held up quite well. It's very rare to find these used.

I'd love to take a shot at building one.
