Default Yes, another downrigger thread

IM looking at purchasing 1 electric and 1 manual downrigger right now for my boat. From what ive seen on cabelas, Walkers seem to be a great deal for the $. Anybody have any experience with them? Im looking at the "coho" model.

I started with a manual Walker. I think their quality is good. I had a couple of issues with mine (no fault of the downrigger as I was using too heavy of a ball) and they took care of it no problem. The only thing is they have to go back to the Great Lakes region so it took a little time. I had to send my Scotty in and it went to Portland and I had it back in a week.

Not to rain on anyone's parade here, but if you can not afford down riggers you can go to a ( Slid Diver Lite Bite ) and hook all the Kokanee you want.

It will also allow to to get your offering away from the boat. You will not have to stack rods on one down rigger and can reach depths of 90' Many of us will run 2 to 4 off one side of the boat. You will be surprised , when fish do not hit down riggers, you will find they will hit the slide dive, steel line rod and copper line rod as well as shark float set up.

Plus here is a list of down riggers from across North America
Cannon
Scotty
Big Jon
Cissco
Walker
Invader
penn electric downriggers

I am in the process of writing up a article for the form. That will make it vary easy for anyone to use.

There are Dipsy Divers by Luhr Jensen
There are Walker Divers by Walker Down riggers
both these items are meant to be run off Copper, Stainless steel or Braid
line to reach depths of 125' The are designed to push away and down from the boat. I have pulled up 12" rainbow on both while after Landlocked Kings. But the are never hit hard enough by the fish to release the divers.

Now the Slide Diver in principle does the same thing, but will not reach the same depths.

The Slide Diver Lite bite has the same principles as all the others, but with the lite bite arm, will allow you to feel and see that little 6 to 9" fish hit and release , to help bring it to the surface while fighting the fish not dragging him to the surface as you would with Dipsy or Walker diver.

A little heads up, the new tackle outlet over by Wash. Sq. (FMS) has Scotty DR's on sale with the new opening, a good discount.
