John I thought we were gonna loose some windows there for a moment. My first concern was that it was not my shop of course. Being in the body business I am sure you can understand my concern with something goes BOOM!!!! Gives me a little appreciation for what goes on in a war zone with all that has happened in the last few days, just without the bloodshed of course.

I've seen the pictures on KATU's web site and the destruction is pretty bad. Just glad no one was hurt. One of my techs saw the tank rise up into the air when it happened. WE are in the process of getting him some dry pants now.

My wife and I heard the blast clear over here in Washougal,we went outside thinking there might have been a traffic accident outside our place.

Bernie - I hope this isnt a sign from above for you I know you are a man of the good book, and I think there is something in the good book about the end of time arriving with some destruction.

Gays getting married

Earlier this week you had fires

Today you got explosions

Tomorrow could be lightning strikes and thunder

You better get some fishing time in before your number is actually called.

Was that Pacific Rock? I deliver liquid asphalt there on occasion. If that's where it was, I'm glad I wasn't there today.

Weird thing is that I live about 20 blocks away, and I didn't hear it.

I just asked my girlfriend, and she heard it. She said the house shook. I guess I was in the bathroom at the time. I must have really been concentrating if I didn't notice it.

Default BOOM!!!!!!! 911

Man we just had the cement factory explode an hour ago down here off of foster rd. The concusion from the blast knocked off the porch lamp outside our off and made our windows flex in a couple of inches. The concusion shook the building like an earthquake.

Ran outside to see the tanks were no longer standing and the dust in the air for 1000 ft. I am ready to move to a new neighborhood. What next??????

No fire thankfully and no one hurt. The North Portland move would be a no go at this time Bill.

C and E, the blast shook my place near 82nd and Powell. Felt like a sonic boom. I went outside for a look see but saw nothing. Glad you are OK.

Yeah it has been a busy week out at that complex. I have been on duty for both incidents. The damage to the concrete/asphalt plant was pretty impressive. Also totally amazing that no one was hurt. Lots of large pieces of the plant thrown quite far. I am just glad it didn't explode while we were fighting the fire on Monday

Concrete dust does not burn. It is roasted limestone. However a big tank of gravel filled with unburned natural gas would burn. Might even hurl gravel and tank parts helter skelter. One spark ..... b o o m. They pump burning gas into the gravel to heat and dry it to make hot asphalt. Maybe they were holding the operator's manual upside down. Thank god no one was killed. Geez the fire next door they thought had to do with welders. Get a clue guys.

Chrome, It was a Natural gas explosion. Not sure exactlly what the cause of it was. The fire was caused by a guy welding over an open tank of oil and slag dropping down into it. Took of real quick and overwelmed the sprinkler system.
