Default Virus Scanners recs wanted

Just spent a couple of hours!! installing and trouble shooting McAffee Virus scan 2044, version 8.0. After jumping through a ton of hoops, such as reconfiguring the computer's resident settings, etc...and contacting their unhelpful help line...and jumping through their hoops, mostly ridiculous menus that did not solve the problem.

Had lesser problems last year with McAffee, and I am taking this one back to the store. Frankly, it is not troublesome to use this product.

Think Norton's would be any better?

Suggestions, comments welcome. I am not an expert, but have at least an average amount of computer savy, for a noncomputer professional, and more than an ave amount of common sense. My common sense tells me not to buy a product that has too many bugs...or is it just a bad cd?

M.

Norton is a bit better in my professional opinion.
But all virus software have their pros and cons.

Every computer is differnt... 3rd party software might be affecting your copy, or possibly a older install of another virus software. Also are you sure your not already infected?
How long has it been since you had a clean install. A computer that is a few years old and have had programs downloaded/installed/removed makes the whole system less stable.

Computer trouble can be a pain.... I'm just happy it pays well

Had McAfee, and would not go back due to frequent problems. Have used Norton's SystemWorks since last fall, with no problems. I Like the Norton AntiVirus program, along with the others that are bundled with Symantec's Norton SystemWorks 2003. Positive recommendation from this user.

As a former IT guy I recomend Norton. Only the antivirus though. All there other system stuff can cause problems.
I also go to www.antivirus.com once a week and click on house call.
