Default For \'The Rogue\' and other OIT Alums.......

Thought you folks might find this of interest.
I have always had a lot of respect for this school and this tells why one should. Of course, as a student at SOSC in the '70's, I enjoyed trash talking you guys, especially during Basketball Season!!

As printed in the Medford Mail Tribune, Sat. March 13, 2004:

OIT pulls its weight
The (Klamath Falls) Herald and News
Oregon Institute of Technology graduates continue to show the value of the education they get. OIT President Martha Anne Dow reported to the State Board of Higher Education recently that 91 percent of the 2002 graduates have jobs in their fields of study, at an average starting salary of $45,500.

That’s no surprise: The school has racked up similar statistics for many years. They vary a bit from year to year, but the message is always the same: OIT graduates command good salaries, almost always in their chosen fields. The school is one of the state’s smaller higher education institutes, but its presence is felt.

The fact that OIT is producing the kind of high-tech graduates that the Oregon economy badly needs deserves recognition and support from state government. We hope the state board and the Legislature continue to recognize that.

Thanks for the post, SD!

OIT has some real great things going for it...but, it's also got some big problems right now.

OIT requires more credits for it's degrees than any other Oregon state institution, and more than most any other in the country. The high job placement rate could be a direct result of this!

Unfortunately, this means that we also have to take more classes, costing more money, and driving more students to "bail out" along the way.

And, being one of the smallest state schools, they really like to look close at it when budgets are really tight. Really hurts my degree field hard, since there's only 40-45 students in the program.

At Intel we have a few OIT grads that I know personally that have reached the grade of Vice President and/or Fellow. Fellow is on track to the highest non-management role at Intel.

Great school and well respected for its engineers it produces.

As a 2000 graduate, I really enjoyed OIT. The smaller classes were great, the professors all had great personallities, and you can't beat the weather in Oregon's "City of Sunshine". Although sometimes it was hard being in class with all the hunting & fishing to be had in the basin.

I hope it can keep the programs personal & experienced based. That is what makes OIT such a great school.
