I met up with my long time fishing buddy Bret Martin to fish the day after Christmas at Crescent Lake. We got out a little after 6am and the plan was to start fishing Tandy Bay for browns. The fog was very thick and made for a interesting trip across the lake. We fish a few hours for browns without a strike. Then we went out to deeper water where Bret started to fish for the macks off his downrigger and I tried out my new in-line side planer. I am looking forward to using the side planer next season when we can fish two rods. Bret caught a 14 pound mackinaw off of the summer homes. He also caught a 8 pound mack in open water. Around 3pm we went back to Tandy Bay and trolled back towards the boy scout camp. Just before Contorta Point I hooked up with my only fish of the day. One small brown that I caught off a rapala husky. For a day trip we did ok. A big thanks to Bret for taking me fishing.

Nice pictures and report. What kind of side planers did you go with?
I am using a Off Shore brand side planer. After using it I think I will buy the optional tattle flag kit. The tattle flag is pulled down when a fish strikes. Being new to using side planers I think that would help me a lot detecting a strike.

Good seeing you guys out there and glad to see you got a few fish. Looks like you're all set for the 2nd rod stamp to go into effect. Let us know how your side-planing adventures go. I have a few ideas of my own but haven't had a chance to try any of them yet. How much longer is your boat going to be down?
I am going to have my motor look at this week. Depending on the reports from LBC I might not be back on the water for a couple of months anyway. Great to see you guys
